Funny Or Offensive?

I think it has the potential to be funny but it isn't really very well done... I mean, a box of chocolates?

But I didn't find it offensive.

I don't think it's offensive, though I can see how some might be tweaked by it, perceiving it as a slightly irreverent treatment of Christ's salvific act. It could've been handled better, as Nunsense said, but I see it as statement directed at the idea that "man, we humans are the most stupid beings in the universe" rather than a offensive statement about the Crucifixion. It's certainly not a deliberately offensive cartoon. Hints of C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy.

I agree with that. To me, it rings of a kind of humor that I notice a lot of Evangelical Protestants use. They're not trying to be offensive, but are making a basic true statement about the faith by invoking some of the "irreverent" humor found often among young people today. It's often used as a way to get young people involved, because it's part of their culture and it's what is familiar to them. When I was in the convent, we definitely shunned humor like that for various reasons, mostly of decorum. But I can understand trying to interest young people by using a humor that is familiar to them. (It was the whole "is this elevating or degrading the culture?" debate). I mean, it's not only Protestants who use that type of humor, it's just that they're the ones I see most often who use it. Maybe it's part of why their youth groups flourish while many Catholic youth groups are somewhat, shall we say, lacking? :idontknow:

Not my cup of tea, but I definitely don't think it's offensive. I could see other people taking offense, though.
