Abortion Shown On Tv

This week there will be a programme on TV in the UK which will show an abortion. The 'results' of a seven week and twenty one week abortion will also be shown. The programme has been made by a pro choice person.
The bishops have given a very mixed response to the programme being aired on TV, one saying for example, it should not be shown because 'abortion is abhorrent to all catholics', while others apparently think that it could make people more anti abortion.
Do you think it should be shown? Would you watch the programme?

If it's meant to promote abortion, I'd avoid it like the plague. But if it was meant to show that abortion is a heinous crime, then it's not something I'd avoid. Either way, however, it has been said that abortion won't end until mankind actually sees abortion. So regardless of the program's intention, it might just serve to help bring abortion to an end.

I don't know that it's meant to promote abortion - the filmmaker has had one herself, but says her views have been challenged since she has had a child. Her father is the chief executive of a family planning organisation.

The reviewers who have seen the programme say that the 21 week aborted baby is particularly shocking. There are 184,000 abortions in the UK every year and it's legal up to 24 weeks. The police are currently investigating doctors who carried out an abortion on the ground of the baby having a clef palate. This may result in a change in our law - the case is being brought by a female anglican priest who was herself born with a similar 'disability'.

Its sad that they are doing that if their purposes are to promote abortion, but hopefully if thats the plan it will backfire on them. People will see the horror of abortion and realize how terribly wrong it is. Pray for the people who will be watching the show! Pray that those who are pro-abortion have a change of heart.

I've heard of this. Pro-life organizations seem to be promoting it.

I wouldn't watch it personally, I've seen something like it and think it's gross.

My only trepidation would be that the slant put on it would be to promote the acceptance of abortion, saying that we need to get over our "emotional preconceptions" about what an abortion looks like and accept it regardless. To promote that attitude in society is really dangerous.
Abortion on TV.....OK.... when will we see death sentences on TV?
Well apparently the same channel has already shown someone dying, though not as a result of the death sentence as we don't have that in the UK! Thankfully I missed that particular programme - I've witnessed death in real life in my own family, to watch it on a TV would have felt incredibly disrespectful to the person and their family......reality TV gone mad!

The issue about the abortion of the baby with a clef palate is an important one as it may result in a change in the law - it's the first time there has been a really significant challenge to the law in the UK. At the moment late abortions are allowed if there is a medical threat to the life of the mother or baby or severe disability. The woman who had this particular abortion argued that clef palate constituted just that and the doctors went along with it. The fact that a woman who had a similar 'disability' is challenging this decision may influence the decision of the police to prosecute the doctors.

The programme is likely to reveal statistics on abortion in the UK which will be a shock to some people, for example that a third of all women in the UK will have an abortion.

What a wonderful quote from Blessed Mother Teresa - thanks for posting it.

Does anyone remember "The Silent Scream" from the 1980s? That too showed a sonogram of an actual abortion.
