strgzr00
I think the best way to clear up your Complexion is to avoid sweet or sugary foods like soda pop or chocolate. It also might be advisable to stay away from greasy food like pizza and wings. I start out the day with a nice cup of plain oatmeal for breakfast. It is a good to start the day and may stave off them snack cravings. Anyway, my mom always said that harsh chemicals or drugs are bad for your health and should be avoided unless prescribed by your physician. As it is impure and may contaminate the blood. ~She was absolutely right (in my opinion) !
It has been demonstrated in many medical studies that what you eat has no effect on acne, especially 'sweets' or chocolate. Nor does masturbation, incidentally, an old canard. Accutane is available only with a doctor's prescription and supervision.
Dancer
Pregnancy worked for me ... but that's not an option for you. For years, I used a face wash daily, and a good quality toner and moisturizer. I used Aveeno products, primarily, and they worked relatively well. Age will help too. I never used Proactive, but my sister did and was pleased with the results.
I will say right here and now: DON'T use Proactive if you have sensitive skin at all! I used it and it burned my face and bleached the towel. I actually don't recommend it for anyone. My cousin used it and his hair was bleached where he would wash his face. Not good at all. What I do is wash my face with mild soap and a washrag twice a day. Then I put on toner stuff I think it is and moisturizer.
rizz_loves_jesus
I wash my face and apply rubbing alcohol. Seems harsh, I know, but it is the only thing that's ever worked for me.

Semper Catholic
Vitamin A Accutane-Although you risk your intestines turning into mush, this stuff alters your DNA And the #1 thing that no one has suggested: Wash your pillow cover. It's amazing how many kids (especially college bros) don't wash that thing. Nothing better then shoving your face into dirt, sweat, and dead skin for 8 hrs every night. Dancer
Good thoughts on the pillow cover. And I meant cleanser instead of toner.
Sarah147
Accutane is by far the most effective treatment, especially for a man --it's a powerful teratogen and women taking it have to be on birth control. Family members who have taken it have tolerated it very well, and their acne has completely cleared without scarring.
Women don't have to take birth control in order to use Accutane. The program I'm using has the option of "abstinence." Catholic Chastity is what works. I agree about food affecting skin. People on raw food or mostly raw food diets, have glowing, clear skin. I've noticed that eating a lot of dairy or fried food seemed to worsen my skin. Major stress is the biggest factor for skin flare-ups for me. But on this Accutane, it seems to bipass these factors. Dancer
I eat a mostly raw food diet so maybe that's why my skin isn't worse than it is lol.

She has to get a pregnancy test at the hospital every month, but that's not a big deal.
Totus Tuus
I am a different case because I had cystic acne which isn't affected by any products except isotretinoin (Accutane). I will say as far as Accutane is concerned, though, that it works like a miracle. My acne went away at age 20 and hasn't come back in over 3 years. I have heard good stories about using Proactive from people who have "normal" acne but that seems to really vary from person to person. I would say something that is definitely important, though, is not irritating your skin too much. Don't wash it too much, touch it too much, or use too many products on it. ironmonk
For some reason, the past week I have had more acne on my face then when I was in high school and well, I'm 21, a senior in college and don't like it. I googled acne solutions, but am not sure if what the company says actually works. My question for anyone then is: What acne products have you used and were you satisfied? Did it go away for a while and then come back? I'll probably resort to buying something at walmart, but am looking for suggestions for what actually works. Thanks for your help!
St. Ives Apricot Scrub works great, it's cheap, found at Wal-Mart... it might bet worse before better, but used daily it'll keep the pours clean. I'm 37 now and still use it... in high school I had to use it, rubbing alcohol, and hydrogen peroxide to keep the acne down. Be careful with the Hydrogen Peroxide, if you have an open one, it could boil up under the skin and look pretty scary. Good Luck! ironmonk
I have facial scarring from acne. I had the severe form of acne and my dermatologist during high school was not a nice man. I was stupid and did not get on acuntine when my dermatologist finally suggested I get on it. The side effects in the pamphlet he gave me scared me. When I got into the Corps, the Corps wanted me to take of my acne, because in the Corps how you look in uniform matters greatly. The problem was... the Corps is under the Department of the Navy and we got all of our medical care through the Navy. The Navy could give a flip about the Marine Corps preoccupation for looking good in uniform. A doctor (another charitable person - this time a woman) refused to prescribe me acutine, although years later, they've had no problem prescribing that pill men use for erectile dysfunction. At any rate, the medical community blabs on and on about "don't wash your face more than..." such and such times a day. They know jack. I listened to that for years. Wish I hadn't. If you have very oily skin, if you can wash your face 600 times a day, wash it 600 times a day. One thing that helped me a lot, for my scalp (which is oily with dandruff, or one was a lot more so than now) and face was using Witch Hazel after every washing. I love that stuff. I'm not even sure I have dandruff anymore. Sunlight helps me out a lot too. Doctors claim that's a myth too. Screw them. These are the same people that came out claiming - during the early 1980's - that steroids did not increase muscle size but was all in the minds of bodybuilders. Whatever.
