ok, so, if you're in a state of mortal sin, you cannot recieve the Eucharist, or it is another mortal sin, and if you miss mass, it's a mortal sin aswell.

if you can't receive communion, does if matter if you go to Mass?

Strictly speaking, the only person who [i]has[/i] to receive communion at Mass is the priest. However, if you're in the state of grace and you've fasted, you should receive communion.

And you're correct - if one is in the state of mortal sin, he should not receive until he has made his confession. I hope this helps.
