Vee8, this might sway you back toward the Dominicans. All you Carmelites-- watch out... I don't think it's possible to read this without falling for the Dominicans... :D In all seriousness.... I can't even begin to put into words how much this resonated with me and extraordinarily beautiful the Dominican soul really is. I really am a Dominican at heart and at soul. Some teasers for you all: A Dominican soul is a soul of light whose rapt gaze dwells in the inaccessible splendor wherein God conceals Himself. It does not jealously guard its faith for itself. It longs to bear the torch of faith everywhere on land and sea, in every country, to the ends of the earth... We have here the key to the whole Dominican vocation: to live, defend and propagate the faith in the atmosphere of the Church. The Dominican soul must be a soul of silence... A Dominican soul which does not love long hours of solitude and recollection deceives itself about the spiritual fruits of its action... The spiritual depth of a soul is measured by its capacity for silence. A Dominican soul in its sublimest activity is a contemplative soul... Its existence among men should be nothing else than a prolonged gaze of love toward God alone. The Dominican soul is a Marian soul... where is the Dominican who does not dream of living and dying with the Rosary in his or her hand? It is true to say that the more devoted a soul is to Mary, the more Dominican it is. Fixed in God by love, the Dominican soul lives for this alone: united with Christ in each of its acts, through Him, with Him, and in Him, it thinks only of glorifying the Father by continual adoration and of saving souls who will glorify Him eternally. ...Not the love of knowledge, but the knowledge of love... AHHHH!!!!!!!!!! Soooo amazing!!!!!!! Dominican.

I have a special place in my heart for the Carmelite Saints. Something in them draws me. But, it's only in understanding St. Thomas' theology of grace that I've been able to really understand the Carmelite writings.

We are drawn to different saints because they help us understand what we need to know. St John of the Cross made everything clear to me at a time when I really needed him. Later, I learned to love Aquinas too, but if St John hadn't come first, I wouldn't even have been able to read Aquinas. I am a Carmelinican

If St. Thomas hadn't come first for me... honestly, I probably would have thought all Carmelites were a bunch of loons... (Sorry, VS Carmelites... ) I remember trying to read John of the Cross before entering the convent, and well.. I could tell he was UBER-holy, but I didn't care, I thought he was also UBER-crazy. That was enough for me.
No, no, the correct term is Dominilite! Second, that's why St John could help me - one uber-crazy to another! Fourth, Dominilites are just Dominicans on a diet! (ps who needs a Third?) AccountDeleted
Since LC is leaving today for England to enter a Dominican convent, I thought I would post a link to a Dominican community here in Oz, in her honour. Pray for us LC This community is fairly new and small, but a former flatmate of mine discerned with them and said they are great. Not being a Dominican myself, I can only take her word for it. So anyone in the Pacific who might be interested in a Dominican (teaching) community, you can write to the Prioress for more info - they do have a brochure with more info.
