Cee-Lo - Greatest Freestyle Evar?

This freestyle is jaw-droppingly good. I don't know if it was all off-the-dome, but even if not, it's still amazing. The freestyle begins at 5:04 in the video.

Whoa. I really enjoyed the interview but I was caught off guard by the subject of the freestyle. I mean it was incredible if it was straight off the dome: rap commentary as a character in the story-- quite an achievement. I just can't disagree more about all that psuedo5% stuff that the man spit--- while I believe that skin color changed as a result of climate and everything I believe that those with lighter pigmentation are satanic In essence... I mean there were serious hints of that in the freestyle. Still, i guess Cee-Lo is absolutely brilliant if that was not written or rehearsed.

I remember, come to think of it, that the Goodie Mob had a few conspiracy theory type songs such as the "Who's that peeping through my window---POW!! ---nobody now!" song that I really liked when Soul Food came out.

so… I can't really say that is the greatest freestyle ever.

The historical narrative in the freestyle doesn't have to be taken literally...it can be taken just a sort of mythological telling of history from a certain perspective (although as you note, the historical narrative is based on the sort of stuff that the Nation of Islam was preaching back in the 1960s). But even if Cee-Lo did literally believe the historical narrative, I still think it's a great "piece of poetry" as he phrases it. There's lot of artists (poets, writers, etc.) who believe things that I would strongly disagree with...they are still capable of making great art.

And I hold up this freestyle in defense of my argument that Hip Hop has produced the only truly great contemporary poetry. I'm not a huge fan of contemporary poetry (i.e., poetry of the conventional kind, though there are some exceptional non-Hip Hop contemporary poets).

This is my favorite wake up show freestyle, and I GUARANTEE most of this is off the top of the head

Wow that was super racist. And I always thought cee-lo was dope but I'm not having that "white people cross-bred with animals and are the devil" stuff.

I can't help but agree with you-- I'm not having the "white man is the devil" stuff but I will have some of that soul food, alright.

I liked Crooked I's freestyles on their program better but this was alright. I like Atmosphere but I wasn't as impressed with theirs, thou I'm more certain that what Slug spit was off the top of the dome, where as the others - I'm more doubtful, with the exception of when Biggie and Eminem were on their program.
