Luigi
"Blackrobe" - about a Jesuit missionary to the Hurons. Historically accurate and theologically sound, although some parts that are difficult to watch and some parts may be objectionable (while still being accurate). jmjtina
That does not matter, if Mel is or isn't I was just referring to the film. Sorry, if I maybe took this a bit defensively, but I don't even see the need to make a comment on Mel, but maybe the movie itself instead.
I agree. The Passion was taken from the book "The Dolores Passion"by Blessed Anne Katherine Emmerich who was one of the most important mystics of recent centuries. Mel was an instrument. And God uses imperfect people to bring about His Glory. The Scarlet and the Black, La Misma Luna, and more, while aren't the "Christian" genre, they have those Christian themes of human dignity, true love, sacrifice, etc. If you want something really Catholiic, this is probably the best stuff there is and the BEST depiction of our Late Holy Father John Paul the Great. Ephrem Augustine
Bernadette and the Passion of Bernadette Actually I would be hard pressed to find movies with a Catholic Theology, and find satisfied with movies that have Catholic themes.
If it was anything like the book, I wouldn't dare watch it. I picked up the book in a Cathlolic Bookshop and read parts of it and found it to be full of obscenities and pornographic descriptions. Not a 'Catholic' book in my opinion. I reported it to the manager because it was so disgusting.

And the movie was full of obscenities and some blatant sex scenes - it also has graphic violence, often unpredictable. That's why I included the warning. But I still think it's historically accurate and worthwhile for Catholics not only in how it details the challenges faced by this (composite) missionary, but also his struggle with faith and how his faith ultimately won.
