Christian Movies....

I watch alot of Christian movies and I think there are some really great ones out there, but am I the only one who if so often disappointed in the theolgy behind the movies? I mean they always seem to try to convey the idea that we just "accept Jesus as our personal lord and savior" and we're saved and guaranteed our salvation from there moving forward. No repentance, no baptism, no eucharist, no confession, no anything that is commanded of us by Christ. In fact, alot of times they seem to promote the idea that we don't need the church, all we need is a personal relationship with Christ. Does nyone know of some great Christian movies that have a Catholic theolgy?

Dude, unfortunately, most "Christian" movies are just that--movies made by evangelicals, infused with and inspired by their own theology. They're good, but limited. It's not worth getting worked up or disappointed about. Just accept them as incomplete representations of the love of God.

dont get me wrong bro, i still enjoy the movies, i just wish there were some equally good movies that were on point theologically....most recently i watched "letters to god" that was a great movie, kind of a tear jerker, definately worth watching, i also, watched "soldiers and saints" that was an awsome movie too, in fact i could see kind of a catholic theme in it, it wasnt an in your face christian movie but there is an underlying theme about faith that definately seemed catholic...

and a good way to go deeper in a discussion with a group about Catholic theology.

I feel like The Passion was more than enough.

Mel Gibson is a form of Catholic. I believe they are separated from the Pope. :( He has his own chapel built off of his house. His daughter joined a schismatic religious order.

And Jim, the actor that portrayed Jesus so wonderfully, is Catholic. I believe he is with the Pope.

That does not matter, if Mel is or isn't I was just referring to the film.

Sorry, if I maybe took this a bit defensively, but I don't even see the need to make a comment on Mel, but maybe the movie itself instead.

Gibson maintains a pre-Vatican II church. A Roman Catholic priest presides at this church and I believe the Archdiocese of LA is ready to recognize it as they perform Tridentine Masses.

It is called The Church of the Holy Family and fully funded by Gibson.

that would be sedevacantism, they believe that there has not been a valid pope since 1958 or 1960, and that 42 of our popes have been anti-popes, and that the the roman catholic masses have not been valid since vatican II, they maintain that they are the true Catholic Church

A lot of people recommend Alfred Hitchcock's "I Confess." I haven't yet seen it, but got 'er on the ol' Netflix queue.

There are quite a few biographical films about Catholic saints and historical figures. What kind of film are you looking for? Frankly, you can find a lot of Catholicism in most any good story.
