fides quarens intellectum
Great OP, DtA! Nice to see you around. i think the reason for why I come to Phatmass has changed over the years. I first came b/c i'd moved to a new town and hadn't met any young adult Catholics yet. Later, i had fun getting to know some Catholic hockey fans. Now, I love the new parenting board, since we're expecting our firstborn (God-willing). There have been times I've talked real-life friends into joining; many have left for various reasons. Then, there are a few friends i've made from PM who are now my real-life friends, and for that I am grateful. There are also times when, like HSMom, i've come more out of habit, feeling more embarrassed about PM than anything. Through it all, I think the neatest thing that keeps bringing me back to PM is getting to read about the lived experiences of other Catholics in different parts of the country/world, and about those who are converting to the faith. Major bonus. Thanks, dUSt.
eustace scrubb
Because I had to secretly investigate the Church, which I felt God calling me to. I stayed for the fellowship... and the snacks...
Mr.Cat
To associate with Catholics and to have fun with Catholics. Because of problems in my life and even with my faith recently, it gives me a healthy and comfortable place to express frustration constructively (perhaps except for a few members and situations) and to reflect about answers. I cherish and appreciate my faith, but I refuse to be fundamentalist, Dust has a very healthy balance and I really appreciate it. He invited me to Phatmass, rather welcomed me to join, so I have met some wonderful people here... Very intelligent, wise, gentle, generous, friendly, and loving people. Some people get far too serious and when you get too serious with me, I tend to just respond with sarcasm. But most people here share dust's lightheared sense of humor and gentle personality, his passionate devotion but healthy perspective on things. So I appreciate that Phatmass exists... Though I admit I might have to take care of myself at times and not let myself get too caught up with trivialities in this passing flux of things, its a terrible way to hurt friends and people who care about you, or find who your real friends are... Phatmass is a good place, it continues to really live and thrive.
Maximilianus
Phatmass, in my opinion, is a Catholic phorum intended to 1) Bring Catholics around the world in community together, 2) be a safe place for non-Catholics to come and learn more about the faith 3) foster an interest in Catholic media and 4) widen the perspective of Catholic universality that many of us do not necessarily see in our home parishes.
I concur with your opinion, specifically 1 and 4. I'd also add non/badly-catechized Catholics to #3. I was a cradle Catholic from a Catholic culture that new little about the Faith. Phatmass has helped. Good post DTA. Edited September 14, 2010 by Maximilianus

This addendum really wasn't necessary. Don't misunderstand me. I am glad you are here, and I originally came here for some of the same reasons. Please pray for me, I will pray for you. We humans aren't just light or dark, we are both... We roll how we roll. Its how I feel about Phatmass, I feel its very, human... in a wonderful way. Azriel
I came because I met this weird dude on another site, who said "hey, I started a Catholic forum. we need members." and I was like "But, dude, you're odd. He's like "yeah". So, I'm like "ok" It was thus that I came to the 1st iteration of Phatmass. I stick around because even though that dude is still weird, I've been able to be part the growth of an amazing phamily whom I hold dear. I'm always welcomed home when I'm am a prodigal, I'm accepted for exactly who I am, and I'm held in prayer 24/7 by amazing people. But yeah, dUst is still odd.
