Another one --Refrain from making a sarcastic comment, even if the set-up is perfect. (It's REALLY hard if you're used to being sarcastic...like REALLY HARD)

Ha, man that'd be so hard. I've become so sarcastic that I have to clarify when I'm being serious.

i need to do it when the kids wake me up. instead of coaxing them to stay in bed, or getting up, getting them breakfast and laying down on the couch and falling asleep again.

Same here. Or if I do get up, not grumbling about it.

I need to work on waking like a hero.

A suggestion: Set 'Gonna fly now' or 'Eye of the tiger' as the alarm tone on your cellphone and keep it far enough from the bed so that you have to get up to switch it off.

A saint once taught (and of course I can't remember who) that a Catholic ought never sit down to a meal without making some sort of sacrifice. Whether it be saying 'no thanks' to dessert, having water instead of soda, or taking the veggie you least like.

St. Josemaria Escriva says something similar in 'The Way' (point 681). I'm on a phone now or I'd post the link to escrivaworks.org .

Oh man. Thanks. Now I have Eye of the Tiger stuck in my head, just from reading the song title!! :wall: Hehe.

I have one. Flying on a plane, from Newark airport, tomorrow, September 11th. I am forming a very large prayer chain for tomorrow, I hate flying and, even more so, on September 11th, especially with all the peaceful actions from Muslims as of late.
Oh man, I've never flown before, but the thought sort of terrifies me.

I also don't like elevators. Or the thought of driving a car, though I'm usually pretty okay when I'm riding in one.

So I guess not being so paranoid (trusting that God will take care of me) is another.

Ha! Nun,, that is SO TRUE--of me anyway. I have spent my entire life growing up, it would seem, and only in recent years have I learned to practice --mortifications, otherwise known as being considerate of others. The major rule of married, or any type of, life, is Keeping your mouth shut. Resisting the put-down, the obvious observation, the dig at the easy target. People who practice this are not only popular and well-loved and respected, they are also saints.

I agree ;)

how about things as small as flossing your teeth or sitting/standing straight if you are normally slouchy? .. you know, things we should be doing but a lot of us dont :) Every little bit counts

And another bump, because these are really good. As a newbie to all of this Catholic stuff ;) I'd never considered mortification in this way before.
