Haha yep, and it's taught by a Spanish guy who recommends the RSV. So I suspect he's Catholic leaning. Thanks Nunsense

Dude I know! There were so many King James Protestants in the lecture hall (I was checkin their Bibles). It's nice that the prof turned out Catholic. This Sunday im gonna sit at the front pew and give him the thumbs up haha.

Congrats! It is exciting. I have a degree in Spanish Literature. And I got to take my bible to school a few times when we read Teresa of Avila, St. John of the Cross and others.

Sometimes I take for granted working in an all Catholic environment. And ten i remember the days of old at my secular college...UT System.

ya, My RSV feels kind of ostentatious with all its gold filigree and red ribbons, and there are all these paperback NIVs and KJVs everywhere.. Typical roman. >:[

Dadgum Papist.

We had the Bible as one of our textbooks, too.... but I went to a Catholic college and we used it in several classes, we just had a paperback Bible because we took so many notes and stuff from/with/in it. I wouldn't want to ruin a beautiful Typical Roman Bible. :hehe:

I actually had to burn that Bible... :( It got water damaged in storage in my mom's basement and was all moldy and nasty. I lost a couple boxes of books. So sad. (Please no one tell me I disposed of it improperly. I will be distraught.)

"Sacred objects, set aside for divine worship by dedication or blessing, are to be treated with reverence. They are not to be made over to secular or inappropriate use, even though they may belong to private persons." [Canon Law 1171]

While this reference does not state that religious objects should be burned or buried, it states that such objects should be treated with reverence. Accordingly, following the tradition of our ancestors, the Catholic Church has always commanded that broken objects, worn out objects, torn liturgical clothing, etc... should be buried or burned as the means of disposal.

I don't understand. Is this a secular college history class? And they ask for the Bible?

Awesome!
I also think it's wonderful, but maybe not THAT unusual. I was a history major at a VERY secular school and we read the Bible in at least one history class that I remember, maybe more than one class. We also read from church scholars such as St. Augustine (not books about St. Augustine, but translations of his writings). And, moving on to to medieval times and the Renaissance, the writings of Church scholars of the time were important texts for the classes. In fact, the Catholic church was an important force in virtually every stage of history--at least after the time of Christ.

I also took "The Bible as Literature," (an English class), so obviously, the Bible was our main text in that class.

And, I didn't even take any religion classes--I'm sure it would have been standard in those.
