It sounded interesting. Have you heard of it? Tried it? What do you think of it? dUSt
People actually make running shoes out of bear feet? Sick.
Sarah147
They say it has cut down on running injuries. It looks so fun and free, and it seems like it embraces poverty and simplicity. Personally, I have flat feet (I'm not sure how severe) and so I don't know how well I would do with it. There is nothing like walking barefoot on a sandy beach, especially near the waves. Edited September 1, 2010 by JoyfulLife
IcePrincessKRS
I have a friend who runs on her treadmill barefoot. She said it actually helped her knees stop hurting when she ran. She plans on buying the FiveFingers shoes as soon as she can.
Sarah147
Awesome. Now that's something I'd like to try -- barefoot running on a treadmill. I love going about barefoot at home. It's just so natural and free. There is even a Franciscan order that goes about barefoot in their convent, including in Chapel. Brother Adam
Due to my feet I have to wear more expensive running shoes, but among the regular runners in our parish most feel that this is a fad that is not likely to last. Time will tell.
morostheos
I'm not really a runner, but I first read about barefoot running a few years ago and it sounded interesting to me. The thing I really don't like about running is the thud thud thud, and with barefoot running you don't do that, because it would hurt! So I read several articles about it, and then incorporated the technique into a running program wearing simple shoes, and it worked pretty well for me. The parts I used: -Small steps -Fast cadence -Not striking with the heel, but placing one foot in front of the other The end effect was basically thinking of propelling your hips forward smoothly instead of leading with my shoulders like I normally would. Of course that wasn't really barefoot running, but I tried to incorporate the parts that seemed like they would help knees the most. Since I'm not really a runner I don't really know how that compares to normal running technique, but I liked it.
Micah
There is a guy about my age who wears these at the gym, and I cant help but stare at them whenever he walks by. I mean, I kind of want a pair just because they're sort of cool and comfy looking, but could I ever wear them out in public ro at the gym? No.
AccountDeleted
I wonder if they would qualify as a Carmelite sandal? I would need a brown pair. edited for typo Edited September 2, 2010 by nunsense
rachael
I always wanted a pair of those.
Hilde
I have socks that are like toe gloves if you know what I mean. They feel kind of weird, kind of like having band aids around every toe, so I don't know if I'd like running like that. But I'd really like to try! When I was little I wore those kind of shoes with rubber soles all the time because it felt kind of like walking barefoot.
mcts
it seems like it embraces poverty and simplicity.
If it weren't for the fact that it appears that they are owned by Merell who's boots are (though awesome, especially when working at a camp) very expensive, I'm going to have to assume that these are as well. Hilde
If it becomes a trend, perhaps other brands will sell cheaper ones.
Yeah, their least expensive pair runs around $85. The average seems to be closer to $110. I am assuming they are manufactured to last a long time so would be worth it, but on a tighter budget it's a lot of money to give up all at once on something that's not a necessity. (Frankly I'm just cheap, I don't like paying that much for shoes. I was cranky when I had to pay $55 for a new pair of running shoes.)
vee
For a lot less money one could hunt down a pair of jika tabi and look like a Japanese construction worker, or just run in your actual bare feet! edited to add and then you could go for a running outfit like this Edited September 2, 2010 by vee8
