Strange Asthma Relief

I have mild sport's asthma so I might try that someday. Usually I take mullein leaf in a tincture on the bad days of summer and it helps. There are other things like mushrooms. My guess with the fish oils is that the amino acids in them are aiding the body in repairing the damage in the lungs.

From articles I read, the chronic cough is from a build up of the chemical acetylcholine or histamines in the lungs. Stress, whether physical or emotional, can cause the histamines to be released, which is why, after exercise, you feel winded if you have asthma. It causes the bronchial passages in the lungs to be inflamed and they narrow causing constricted air passages. Fish oil contains Omega-3 fatty acids which work against both acetylcholine and histamine receptors and decreases the levels within the lungs. It also has a natural anti-inflammatory complex. Good all around!

I love me my fish oil.

Not so much the burps.

Yeah, that is one bad side effect of fish oil liquid or non-enteric coated capsules. The non-enteric form also causes acid reflux, so it's best to take the double capsulated version which is not digested until it reaches the small intestine. I also recommend using fish oil that is from low-mercury fish. You don't necessarily have to go to a health-food store. I've seen this version in Walmart. Here is a good brand:

I take a big old omega-3 oil capsule every day. Better than taking a tablespoon of the oil. I think it's gross.

Ick! Fish oil liquid is disgusting! :x

Yeah, but what am I going to do with all this information? If I don't stop, my head is going to explode! (Maybe that's why I'm getting so many headaches...)

Now that seems extreme. It's helpful to learn and then pass on the information to help others and yourself. It sounds like you are researching a little too much?

Yeah that was my first reaction when I heard about this as well. I was listening to a podcast of Radiolab when they had the guy mentioned in this article on. But it's apparently a treatment that works for him, and I do think it's interesting that things like allergies and asthma (which are auto-immune issues) are not present in developing countries where hygiene is not as good as it is here.

I'm not planning on infecting myself, by any means, but it's still interesting.

What can I say, I listen to weird stuff.

Fish oil is not strange at all, when you consider the range of available options ...

Yeah, I don't think I'll be using hookworms any time soon...

Fish oil I can stomach, but hookworms...me thinks not.

I've recently been reading some amazing things about omega 3 and DHA in particular. They are great for fatigue, allergies, mental health, ADD/ADHD, Dyselxia, etc. I'm looking into trying a formula with about 480mg DHA and for a few months to give it time. We'll see how it goes. :)
