I just broke my fast, and then put the kids to bed. Prayed for you all at Mass this morning; going to go say the rosaries in a few.

That's awesome, well done!

Are you enjoying it so far?

Went fairly well, though I slipped on the computer time towards the end of the day. Only got one Rosary in, but of course did other prayers, too.

Yay somone remembered.

I've had to push it to tomorrow as I was supposed to be sailing this evening (cancelled due to bad weather)

I hope everyone has done okay today though and anyone who has forgotten or anything, feel free to join me one day late.

:D

Oh, the first Friday snuck up on me today! Sorry I forgot....

I'll try to do it next Friday to make up. I did make it to mass and abstain from meat, and I can say a rosary before bed, but I didn't fast. :(

So, who's up for some fasting?

It's the monthly Phirst Phriday Phatmass Phast this Friday (Dec. 3rd), and I wanted to invite everyone to consider joining us this time, since it's Advent. And it's the feast of St. Francis Xavier this month! The purple ain't just for royalty - that's penance, too ;). So, bring whatever intentions you have, cut back on your food, or (if that wouldn't be wise), give up something else (like TV/phone/internet/sweets/coffee/alcohol).

It's recommended that you say three rosaries over the course of the day, though of course Adoration, Mass, or Liturgy of the Hours are great, too. Some form of prayer to keep your fasting spiritually grounded is essential! And of course you'll be in solidarity with everyone here who is joining in, so when you see that donut in the breakroom, you can just pass it by....

I wanted to give everyone enough advance warning to make your plans accordingly. So, let us know if you're joining in!

Hinter dem Horizont

I fast a few times a day every month. To me it teaches balance in life, moderation, and it teaches against gluttony which is one of the deadly sins.

I'll join the fasting group for sure!

Today's the day! If you can join us, that would be great :).

Fasting involves two small meals and one normal size meal with no snacks. Cutting out 'extras' like desserts or alcohol is also recommended. But as always, please do not do anything that would not be condoned by your doctor - praying in solidarity with those who are fasting is always appreciated.

I'm just finding this thread now... so I hope it's not too late to join!
I'll fast with you. I do it on bread & water... Is that okay?

Sounds great! Yep, bread and water (or bread and juice ;)) fasts are fine. This is more about solidarity in fasting than all doing the same thing.

I admit that my own fast was a bit weak today. My 'normal meal' was normal in size, but really nice food. There was a catering windfall at work, so.....

The prayer was good, though! Mass and adoration, yay :)

Bread and water would be good for me - feel a lot more like privation. [And I honestly wouldn't starve even if I ate nothing  ]

I'm considering doing this every Friday in Advent. So, I know this group is originally just for once a month, but I think it's okay to expand it to all Fridays in Advent, yes? Anyone else interested in that?
