Brother Adam
Facebook's new service allows anyone to pinpoint your exact location on facebook, giving everyone an easy way to find you. For most people this would constitute a violation of their privacy, and can be especially dangerous for minors. Disable this service by: 1) Go to "Account" at the upper right hand corner of the screen. 2) Click on "Privacy Settings" from the drop down menu. 3) Click on "Customize Settings" 4) Under "Things Others Share" Change "Friends Can Check Me Into Places" as "Disabled" under the drop down menu. That's it!

TeresaBenedicta
I didn't even know there was a "check in" thingy or what that even means. Thanks Adam!

OnlySunshine
Facebook is becoming increasingly more risky. I don't like the idea of anyone knowing where I am. I like my privacy. All the more reason to give up my profile which I did months ago.

OnlySunshine
The only thing that really keeps me on there is that it's the only way to stay in touch with one friend, and my cousins (who are in high school) are on there, and I kind of want to keep an eye on them.
The only reason I was ever on there is because my sister wanted to have some way to connect with me while she was at college, but we never talk to each other on it. Also, I was connecting with my young adult group friends, but I have other ways of doing that because we have a private group online that I'm a member of. If anyone wants to know how to delete your account, I can post the link. It completely deletes your information instead of just deactivating it. penguin31
It seems like there's some new privacy-invading thing that needs to disabled at least once a week nowadays on Facebook. Really starting to have concerns with the site. Edited August 28, 2010 by penguin31
Nihil Obstat
Well they do provide it free of charge, and it's our choice to use it or not. I'm inclined to not make too much of a fuss over it.
BG45
Glad you reposted this; a friend posted it the other day and it saved so much time wading through the privacy stuff to know what and where to click.
CrossCuT
I dont really know what that option does, but somehow I feel safer with it disabled!
Fragments
To be honest, if someone is bothered to try and track me down, finds me, at the right time and right place. I sort of feel I deserve what's coming. (Hopefully cookies are coming. Though I doubt anyone makes that much effort for cookies anymore. )
Ephrem Augustine
dude this only works when you are on a portable device like an iphone or blackberry (that is enabled to do it), and you check in, or your friends who have one of these tag you in. it does not track your location on your laptop at home. it cannot automatically track you down on your portable device either, unless you program it to do it. This is not anymore invasive as facebook currently is. Edited August 28, 2010 by Ephrem Augustine
