StMichael
http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/confidential/reformed-bad-boy-mark-wahlberg-goes-to-church-during-australian-tour/story-e6frf96o-1225906318411 Reformed bad boy Mark Wahlberg goes to church during Australian tour REFORMED bad boy Mark Wahlberg is dedicated to attending church each day -- even during his hectic Australian tour with Will Ferrell to promote their new film The Other Guys. Wahlberg, 39, went to St Mary's Cathedral Catholic church in inner Sydney yesterday wearing his golf clothes after a game with Ferrell. "I love golf and I love church. I do both every day,'' the committed Catholic, former rapper and Calvin Klein underwear model said as he entered the cathedral for 20 minutes of prayer. Wahlberg, who was raised a Roman Catholic in Boston, Massachusetts, is a former drug addict who had several run-ins with police as a teenager. But he cleaned up his image and has settled down wife Rhea Durham and their four children. The actor, formerly known as Marky Mark during his earlier years as a rap musician with the band Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch, arrived in Sydney on Sunday. "Anchorman" star Ferrell, 43, jetted in from Los Angeles yesterday and joined Wahlberg and their entourage for a round of golf at Rose Bay's Royal Sydney Golf Club. The group played 18 holes and the loser - one of their entourage - had to dive in to the Sydney Harbour back at the Park Hyatt hotel where they were staying. Ferrell and Wahlberg will be flying to the Gold Coast, on Wednesday to present a screening of their new film at the Australian Movie Convention. "The Other Guys" is a comedy about two mismatched police detectives who have trouble getting along. The movie was released in the U.S. earlier this month and is due to hit Australian theatres in September. The movie topped the U.S. box office when it debuted two weeks ago and is expected to make AU$130 million, showcasing Wahlberg's growing comedic skills and rebooting Ferrell's stalled career. dUSt
I've always known Mark was Catholic. He has a tattoo of a rosary around his neck, and has mentioned in several interviews in the past that he's Catholic, and has a good friend who is a priest. I've heard rumors that he may have been falling away, so an article like this is good to read!!!

Nihil Obstat
I hate to spoil parties. Mark Wahlberg is revisiting his Boogie Nights years - he is planning to shoot another movie about the porn industry. The actor played a male prostitute in the 1997 film about the "golden era" of adult movies in the 1970s and 1980s. Now he wants to bring the story up to date by shooting a TV drama about a porn company struggling to compete with adult websites, and a girl who travels to Los Angeles hoping to make it in the sex industry. New York Post gossip column Page Six reports Wahlberg has teamed up with his fellow Entourage executive producer Steve Levinson and writer James Frey to work on a script for HBO. Frey tells the publication, "We're going to make a sprawling epic about the porn business in L.A. We're going to tell the type of stories no one else has told before, and go places no one has gone before." StMichael
Entourage has taken a very left turn this season. While they have always been porn obsessed, porn actresses were background. This season, however, they have actually enlisted a porn star to play the lead role (Vince) girlfriend. I have a ton of issues with this as opposed to using a real actress that is playing such (this in itself is a whole 'nother story), but HBO, Entourage and Wahlberg are exposing their audience to someone they did not know before and could potentially be a gateway to viewing hard core porn. Not sure how to resolve this.
I hate to spoil parties. Maximilianus
I get the impression that the entertainment industry's definition of a commited Catholic is different than ours. Edited August 20, 2010 by Maximilianus
jiyoung
I get the impression that the entertinment industry's definition of a commited Catholic is different than ours.
yeeeeeeeah that would definitely be true. I think that actors justify those parts by saying that they're just acting, and it has nothing to do with who *they* are. I think that can be true to a certain point, but perhaps not quite to THAT point. You can play a villain without being a bad person; there's a saying I've heard--"There, but for the grace of God, go I." But there's a difference between playing a bad person honestly and glorifying their bad behavior, so it's a bit of a fine line. And certainly, there are some places where the line is very clearly drawn. In this case, though, I don't know how you could get away from this without glorifying pornography and the people who work in it. If it's true that a priest approves all of his role choices, I REALLY hope he advises against this. I don't see how he could approve it unless it's basically out to show how depraved the industry is--but even then, is it healthy to expose people to it at all? Side note: my friend, who occasionally goes to Good Shepherd in Beverly Hills, has seen Mark Wahlburg coming into church. I think on the occasion that she mentioned, he made a beeline for a confessional and left after that. (By beeline I mean strutting in all "Hey everybody, I'm Mark Wahlburg"--hehe)
