Anastasia13
since this place seems to get maybe one new church scholar per year its not likely a pressing issue.
You're right. Would it be an issue with Church Militant?
Aloysius
I think a general Eastern Christian encompassing both the Eastern Rite Catholics and the Eastern Orthodox is more palatable for a site like this, because many positions that are sometimes espoused by Eastern Rite Catholics are pretty unpalatable to Roman sensibilities and result in clashes... I mean, the Catholic Melkite Patriarch would most certainly never be able to maintain a Church Militant tag here based on his positions, for instance, so it stands to reason certain Eastern Catholics would also from time to time come into clash; and it would therefore likely be easier if they were listed along with Eastern Orthodox posters in an "Eastern Christian" group that did not therefore indicate that they "rep-the-pope" necessarily, as is the implication of the Church Militant tag. You said, "the Catholic Melkite Patriarch would most certainly never be able to maintain a Church Militant tag here based on his positions," what positions differ that could be an issue? Aloysius
Apo would probably be able to give the reasoning better along with the quotes, I'll see if I can find some of them, but it's more along the lines of only recognizing the first 7 ecumenical councils and having certain problems with the papacy especially as defined by Vaticans I and II... which the Melkites are given a bit of leeway to get away with at the higher levels that us Romans don't really get and that most faithful Romans kind of disagree with or at least don't understand.
Fascinating. I wonder if Maronites are like that too. Well. We have solved the question and found the best solution. Now we just need to get it to happen. You might notice that I was already discussing this with Dust. This thread is relevant because of record of discussion, historical precedent of interest, and the current discussion that Aloysius and I have just had.
