Groo the Wanderer
Need advice pham. I just found out I goofded big time, albeit accidentally. When I go to youth conferences as a chaperone/sponsor, one my my favorite things to do is check out the vendors booths and snag cool stuff. For the past couple years, I have been dropping a bunch of money at a particular booth that has lots of awesome books and tshirts as well as scapulars and medals and such. Two years ago, I bought a copy of the Divine Office. This year among other things I bought copies of "Roman Catholic Sunday Missal Booklet" and "For the visitor at Mass" since I am supposed to be learning how to serve as an acolyte at the TLM. The books look great, are written very clearly, and seem quite helpful. I noticed that they all have the same little logo on the cover which I had thought was from the publisher. I checked out the publisher's website and freaked... The logo is that of the SSPX. oh frak. Problem # 1 is that now I don't know what to do about these books. They do not contain a single word schismatic or negative toward Vatican II or the Pope. They seem to be accurate and are much better written than similar books published by non-schismatic Catholic groups I have seen. My money went to the vendor, not the publisher or the SSPX directly. Should the books be returned next year, burned, or is there no problem? Problem #2 is I don't know now if they are accurate - do they depict the TLM in the old manner of celebration or in the modern manner approved by B16 (minor differences, but I have to know them). Are these still acceptable study materials given the source? HELP - I have very little knowledge about the SSPX or the consequences (intended or not) of purchasing or using their materials. thanks, Panicked Groo.... Nihil Obstat
I would try to return it, but if that is a big hassle, then I would try to cover up the SSPX bits. Is there a way to alter it so that one couldn't tell the source?
Tridenteen
JMJ The SSPX are cool with the Holy Father now, I should think it wouldn't make much difference....
LouisvilleFan
I'm sure the priest you're working with to learn the TLM could fill you in on any differences. You're not going to learn how to serve the TLM solely from reading a book anyway.

[/quote] Eh, sorta. I'd say the Holy Father is working on repairing that relationship, not that everything's cool. But no, I don't think you need to burn the books. Just be aware that there may be some minor issues, and the priest who is teaching you to serve the Latin mass gets precedence over the book anyway. As for that vendor...maybe shop somewhere else next time. Edited August 11, 2010 by MithLuin

Dave
You have no need to worry. You didn't buy the books with the intention of supporting rebellion against the Holy Father. Heck, I attend a parish staffed by the FSSP, and the hymnals we use were published by the SSPX!

CatherineM
I wouldn't feel bad. They probably have more books in print about it than the church does currently.
