MithLuin
I hope she's able to find another job and doesn't regret her hasty decision. A lot of people have awful bosses, but generally you put in the effort to look for a new job before you up and quit. And, in most cases, you have to give 2 weeks notice. Now, if he was making lewd comments about her...he's going to have trouble complaining about her short notice.
MIKolbe
2 week notice is a courtesy. If her boss is calling her what she says he is calling her, he needs no such courtesy, IMHO; and should consider himself lucky he did not get his company sued for sexual harrassment. ardillacid
I have never heard hopa used in that context. That could be a bit of a reach.
MithLuin
Using the oh-so-reliable online urban dictionaries, I have discovered that hopa (as slang) generally refers to someone who is half-Japanese. I wouldn't guess that that applies in this context. h.p.o.a. has the meaning she gives it, though the example seems to be focused on a male who has this quality, not a female. These radio talkshow people give the term the meaning of applying to women (particularly women who have bodies that are exploited for calendars and the like), so if her boss listens to them on the radio, it would make sense he would mean this when talking about her. While I think it's a cool, in-your-face way to quit...I am not sure that it was a wise decision on her part.

First she says that he said hopa, but then changes it to hpoa. She doesn't explain how she got from one to the other, since they really aren't anything alike. Apotheoun
She should have stayed and filed a harassment claim. If it failed she could always quit later.
Semper Catholic
Derp someone called me names so I'm going to commit career suicide and embarrass myself and the company I work for so people will laugh at me on the inter-butts! Lets see, options: 1. File lawsuit, get big settlement 2. Go to manager, report boss, get his job 3. Make a fool of yourself on the internet, quit your job in the worst economy possible. Hopefully daddy has money, otherwise Jenny is going to be making sandwiches while Spencer just gets a new assistant.

Sojourner
I'm hesitant to say she should have stayed in a situation like that, but to be honest it probably long term would have been to her benefit. If she'd stayed, she would be employed (a big plus) and she would be able to gather more evidence to support a harassment claim, which would have also been a big plus. However, I will note that over the years I've worked something like 20 jobs, counting part-time work, and there have been a couple I've wanted to quit in such grand fashion. Hopefully she'll find other work, but if she doesn't perhaps she can take comfort in the fact that her sacrifice has brought solace to millions of dissatisfied workers across the nation.
