I had a huge beetle come in the window to my room the other day. It was really gross. Can't say I felt the urge to eat it.

My cats eat bugs--I think they like the crunch. Since they are indoor cats, and I don't have mice, they have led a deprived life and have to make the best of what's available.

Entomophagy is real and perfectly normal.

I would like everyone to consider that it is L_D who is saying this is normal, not an actual sane member of society, but a delusional hippy tree-hugger

Wow. Why the venomous personal attack? Get a grip man. -1.

Btw, there are plenty of cultures, past and present, in which entomophagy is perfectly normal. That is what I had in mind. Just cross the border to the south of your country and there are culinary traditions in which insects are normal (Oaxaca, Puebla, Morelos, and other areas for example). In the past the Aztecs were into entomophagy as well. Keep going south and you'll continue to find insect eating. Also, many places in Asia and among many African peoples. Give heed to the words of Kuato.

Well, L_D, I was just getting ready to reply that I've missed your posts a lot. There are few enough posters here who are both wise and knowledgeable, yet also have a finely tuned sense of the absurd, that when you don't post, there is a big gap. (Maybe you HAVE been posting, but since I avoid the debate and serious threads, I might have overlooked your posts. If so, I apologize.)

However, after the photo you posted above, I may add a caveat that, although I thoroughly enjoy your unique brand of humor and strangeness, I don't enjoy it ALL the time.

While I agree that many cultures eat insects, and enjoy them, I am a product of my culture, and have difficulty with the idea. (I also had a problem with friends of my relatives who ate the placentas of their newborn children, calling them "a gift, freely given.") We all have limits.

However, one of my close friends in college, who was/is a Professor of Entomology at Sacramento State, taught me at least some appreciation of insects. (And, he ate them, too.) However, that was a long time ago, and some of his lessons have worn off.

As a fellow delusional tree-hugger, if you are going to insult us because you are jealous, you could at least be thoughtful enough to spell hippie correctly.
