That picture is just BEAUTIFUL - and their habits are simply beautiful. Absolutely beautiful - truly, I'd have to say hands-down my 100% favorite habit, both the full habit, AND the postulant habit. Wow. Che bella!

vee
Perhaps if overzealous Carmelite types keep Sister Librarian awake at night with their ecstacies, they will be required to wear this postulant habit. After all, an entire chapel has been set aside with stone walls and a thick door (far away from the monastery) for this precise purpose.
And here I was going to suggest it be the PPC librarian habit since the poofy veil part would help prevent the dear librarian from bumping her head on the shelves! IgnatiusofLoyola
I have no problem with that habit, well except for the Peter Pan collar, which I haven't seen since the 60's. We can have postulants wear PPC blue habits and veils, although the Carmelites sometimes have habits which are more elaborate than they appear, so it may not be the identical habit. Personally, I think we should go for as much practicality as possible, although capes are fine, especially if they can be removed when practical. The Benedictine postulant habit is okay, too, but I agree, any Postulant habit needs a cape and the ears should be covered. I won't get depressed if postulants wear PPC blue, but I still think the novice and professed Habits should be Dominican white, but with PPC blue scapulars, and for professed, a blue band around the veil. This will not be a dour and heavily penitential community, but instead more Marian, and celebrating the joy and blessing of the resurrection. (But with a "bloody" chapel for those who like that kind of thing, and for Good Friday.) We will do our best to accomodate any Sisters who want to be cloistered. But, just by the fact that cloistered and semi-cloistered and non-cloistered Sisters will be living together as equals, it won't be as "hidden" as a Carmelite community (such as covering faces when takin communion). However, I also see no need to splash our pictures all over the Internet, either. (Heck, I don't even have a Facebook account.) If anything, because we will be unique, some inflexible types will totally disapprove, so I'm not sure we want to call a lot of attention to ourselves. Women who are called to our unique charism will find us.
IrishSalesian
It does seem wrong that the guys can go right into novitiate and habit while the girls have to postulate.
Just wanted to add that I did have to do a year of pre-novitiate. Granted, not a monastic order, the Salesians, but we still do a 'postulant' year. As do the Salesian Sisters. krissylou
I do not wish a veil that covers my face for Communion, on the grounds that I am QUITE clutzy enough under normal circumstances and with this added complication I would undoubtedly trip over something, break my neck, fall face-first into the priest holding the Hosts and send Jesus flying all over everywhere. If the goal is to increase reverence, I honor that goal but this would seem decidedly counterproductive. For me. I applaud people who wish to show greater reverence, find that this is an effective way to do so, and can manage it without threatening life and limb. But I fear I would not be one of them. Mea culpa!) since they're a bit more visible when they come up for Holy Communion. I believe they flip the outer veil over their faces just as they are going down to kneel for Holy Communion. I imagine the Sisters in Valparaiso decided to have the postulants do this too so they get used to it.
