Christopher Hitchens: Dying With Grace.

I have not always been a fan of Hitchens. But I cannot help but admire him in this interview. His character flaws are plain to see. But you also see how those same character traits that encourage his flaws are what nourish his admirable traits as well. For every vice there is a corresponding virtue. I thought the beginning of the interview was particularly powerful.

And he's ok with that now.

He said in the interview that he would not turn down prayers said for him. He would accept them graciously.

He also mentioned that there were a bunch of folks who were praying he ended up burning in hell. That's got to be the dumbest prayer offered ever.

Ah, cool. Would I be reading too much into that to ask if it might mean something?
Didn't have a chance to listen to the interview.

He was INCREDIBLY gracious in the interview. There were moments where he was bloviating. For example he "regrets he can't write the obituary for villians like the Pope and Henry Kissinger". But for most of the interview he was almost humble.

He's qualified that if he has a death bed conversion it won't be him it will be due to losing his intellect.

Lol, well I guess that sort of thing is to be expected.
Well better to die a gracious old man than as a bitter angry old man.

What do you suppose God thinks when hearing a prayer that someone hopes that someone else burns in Hell? That's got to be the source of great sadness.

Indeed it must. Christians have a duty to pray for and preach the Gospel to individual lost souls. Praying for someones damnation, or refusing to pray for someones salvation would seem to be a great injustice and dishonor to God, and the soul made in His Divine Image.

When the disciples James and John saw this they asked, "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" Jesus turned and rebuked them...

Luke 9:54-55

Maybe that could give some insight?
