Nihil Obstat
haha... well I took 2 years of Latin...but that was back in the 7th and 8th grade... I hardly remember anything ... i knew I should have paid attention
Well hey, you'll have a head start on me! I find the Low Mass brutal to follow, but the High Mass seems far easier, and this is having only minimal exposure to Latin.
Bennn
I think it might be wise to just contemplate if it is your first time. The more you will go to the traditional Mass, the more you will grow into it. I truly hope you will enjoy it.

But then, it was a small church, so you could hear what the priest was saying. ETA: he also didn't have servers this week =/ so he said things more out loud so we could respond to him. MissScripture
My advice is don't be surprised (and don't feel bad) if you get really confused and have a hard time paying attention to the Mass (particularly if the church is very beautiful). Tridenteen
JMJ Oh please Nihil, the Low Mass is cake...why? Well, because you can't hear anything, so it doesn't matter whether or not you follow along...no one else can either
Brother Adam
Don't dress like a belly dancing clown and dance in the middle of the aisle every time bells ring or someone chants. Other than that, go live the Mystery.

And yeh it was a low mass... and I totally did not follow the whole beginning half, but after that I always had at least some sense of where we were Thanks for the advice, everyone! Next time I shall try the high mass... only problem is it is on Sunday when I usually attend mass with other people and I might not be able to convince them to try it out!! jeffpugh
What's with you people not hearing anything? Honestly. Okay, for you newbs, here's the key points of response. 1: gloria. you should know that... mayhaps. 2: Priest: Dominus vobiscum. You: Et cum spiritu tuo. 3: Credo. Rawk it. 4: During offertory, priest turns and says "orate fratres" and trails off. That's the "pray brethren that our sacrifice..." you can feel free to quietly respond to that in English: "may the Lord accept this sacrifice... for the good of all His Holy Church" 5: Bells mean stuff. Consecration, Sanctus, priest communion (sometimes) 6: Domine non sum dignus (Lord, I am not worthy to receive you under my roof...). It's part of the ordinary form as well, but under a bad translation (I say the Latin in either liturgy ). You say it three times in mass of Bl. John XXIII. -If you feel inclined, bring a cheat sheet with some of these. -Pater Noster is said by the priest mostly, but everyone responds "sed libera nos a malo" (but deliever us from evil) -Take it in, your first time. My first trid mass was a couple lents ago, and I was in the choir. It was quite the experience for me. I still go. You'll see how much it elaborates on the OF of the Latin Rite once you go a little more and take some time comparing the missals. Honestly, it will take a little work. But a Christian faith is a living faith, and a living faith must grow through development, which means having to take time to learn. I'm still figuring that part out . Anywho, go for it! Have fun! Go more than once! Try low and high mass!
