JTheresa
LC and JTheresa since you're both entering do you ever post about that? if I knew I was entering for sure I'd have to decide if I'd tell everyone with one swift post or wait till I'd made the novitiate at least then send out cards or something!
I haven't made an "official" facebook announcement about it, but everyone who has been keeping tabs on me knows. Actually, a status update was one of the things that I used to "test" my calling. I posted the question, "to be or not to be" (in my mind, "to be a nun, or not to be a nun, that is the question" lol ) in a rather nonchalant manner, and wondered how people would respond. About 7 mins later, one of my friends (who was wondering why on earth I would want to be a nun) said "to be, definitely." I thought that it was really funny. TeresaBenedicta
Hm. I tend to post religious themes fairly often, I suppose. Not all of the time, but fairly often. Whether it be a scripture verse, a quote from a Catholic author, or articles pertaining to theology or Catholic philosophy... Granted, I have a majority of Catholic friends (including a handful of priests and quite a few seminarians with whom Ive had class), so there's usually a positive response to most everything I post. Sometimes I get nervous about posting religious things because my family is on facebook and nobody is religious in my family. But I've found that I'm more at ease with allowing facebook to be an evangelization tool.
LIKE that's the best status ever!! oh and i write stuff in latin a lot in my statuses so no one but my Catholic friends can understand ha Edited August 2, 2010 by loveletslive
Nihil Obstat
I very frequently post religious things on my FB profile. It's a huge part of who I am, and my profile is supposed to reflect me, so it does. I've had negative responses in the past. I've had very heated debates on my posts. Sometimes I've said less than nice things too. I've even 'lost' a couple friends over it, although I have a feeling I'm better off that way. ...but yea, my Facebook profile is supposed to represent me. When I meet someone new, if I feel comfortable sharing a bit of who I am, then that's what I want them to see. I don't want to hide any bits that might make people angry. Today I posted a religious status update for the first time in honor of my beloved Ignatius. I posted the Jesuit motto btw. I think some of my more religion hating friends and relatives might not like it but I'm not scared anymore. I'm not hiding my faith anymore. If they don't like it they can delete me and I'm ok with that. Pray for me though and all who read it please! Here is my question though and that is do you post religious stuff on fb and how have people reacted if you did? cmotherofpirl
My cousin unfriended me when I shared something Theo posted about Mary, but then she is a hellfire Baptist and hates everybody but baptists anyway. She called my aunt and bitterly complained about those hated papists and hasn't spoken to me since. Her nephew [ my cousin] posted a rude joke about pregnant nuns, and I posted a one word comment 'dislike' and now they don't talk to me either. Such is life.
When I am in such situations, I think "Obviously, this was not a great relationship anyway. Glad I'm done with it." lol I tend to not update my statuses much, and when I do, it's usually something really random that has me frustrated or excited or something. But on occasion I do post something religious, such as a quote or a "happy feast of XYZ," and I don't think I've ever gotten a negative repercussion from such things (If people have unfriended me, I haven't noticed, so we weren't close anyway). The only person I would worry/care about the response from would be my oldest brother, but we've come to a mutual understanding that I don't argue with him about his beliefs and he won't argue with me about mine. I know my other brother has argued with him in the past regarding political/religious stuff on FB, but I think that was instigated by my other brother, not my oldest brother. I do have my oldest brother blocked on newsfeed, though. I find it helps my blood pressure.
HisChildForever
I just posted one because of this thread. I rarely post statuses, but plenty of them have been Catholic. No one has tried to argue with me about it. They are certainly welcome to.

kamiller42
Based on my FB experience, FB is a great place to meet people but not to know them. Posts are generally about food, weather, weekends, and kids... over and over and over...
I do it more often then not I have the term Bro in front of my name, to connote my religious title... people from my public high school have added me. I think it scares some people away, i think others just ignore it, and occassionaly some of my more openly Catholic friends find inspiration. I cannot assess the results of everyone, except the positive ones, and the positive ones are expressed.
