If You Could Start Your Own Order...what Would It Be?

I was trying to say "what did I just see" in a funny way. It was sort of shock at picturing a convent being like what you described, mixed with a funny reaction.

JT, I said that because your profile says: "JTheresa moving in t minus 10 days, and no house to move into. its crunch time." BTW, you look like you are about to burst out of the screen, lol.

It would be Passionist. Non-cloistered and with foreign orphanage missions, as well as making vestments (awesome ones with no polyester involved). We'd have the Passionist habit with the sort of veil that goes around the shoulders (so that when you're in prayer the people next to you can't really see your eyes) but without that box thingy on top of the head. Also it would be a Latin Mass community. Chapel architecture is Gothic with lots of the large painted statues and detailed stained glass. Liturgy of the Hours, Mass every morning, and Adoration daily. We can have speaking during meals, maybe except on Sunday, and sisters rotate dining with the children. Individual cells and silence after 9:30 . Wedding dresses during profession as well as the prostration with the pall, and profession rings.

Addition to my first post:

A little Latin from time to time. Leaning toward Traditional. Around 10 Sisters, a good amount in their mid to late twenties, and mature. Not too formal, austere, reserved, yet not yahoo. Some free time scheduled. Contemplative with some of the work mentioned. Order stays for my entire life. Faithful to the Pope, Church.

Okay, I had figured out that you were saying "What did I just see?" I just didn't know if you were reacting to the PPC community as a whole, or something specific. I'm so used to the PPC now, it's hard for me to picture someone hearing about it for the first time. As you get to know the people on VS, you'll see that the PPC is a microcosm of the people who post in VS. If you want to read something funny, find the post from JTeresa with her letter to the local Bishop asking for his blessing (because, of course our community would be in communion wiith the Church).

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the cap that Passionists wear under their veil is what helps keep the veil on. (It has velcro on it.) Also, in the very conservative cloistered Passionists like the Ellisville Passionists, it covers their shaved head.

But, as I understand it (and this is where I want someone to speak up if I'm wrong), it seems like many Orders with veils wear a cap underneath it, to help hold it on--even simple veils like the Nashville Dominicans. And, when you watch the clothing ceremonies of various orders that wear wimples and guimpes, I think even they wear a cap underneath. I'm not sure all veiled Orders wear caps, however. I don't think the Sisters across the street from me, who wear a simple veil, wear a cap, but instead a wire inside the veil keeps it on.

One of the Nashville Dominicans said that if she gets sweaty during games, the cap underneath keeps the veil from getting sweaty and the cap is easily washed. Also, apparently many Orders wear a T-shirt (often a plain men's T-shirt) under the habit to keep it from getting sweaty, because, as I understand it, most Orders only change habits once a week or two (or possibly longer) and it's easier to wash and change a T-shirt every day.

Also, I think that one of the reasons that the choir stalls of many Orders of nuns/Sisters have high sides is so that the nuns/Sisters can't see the face of the Sister sitting next to them.

A lay third order for married couples. Franciscan ideas of frugality and simplicity with Benedictine spirituality. Major emphasis on education.

Oh. :duh: that's because my family and I are moving to a new house in less than a week. We didn't really have a whole lot done at the time so it definitely was "crunch time". It still is, but at least we're a little farther now. Sorry about all the confusion!

And yeah, I am really excited. :yahoo:

I wish I could take credit for that letter but I can't. I'll try to find it. It was a hilarious summary of the PPC.

Us: Dear Bishop. Please grant your blessing to our community. We are Benedictine and Carmelite and Franciscan and Dominican and Visitandine and cloistered and semi-cloistered and not-at-all cloistered and we like to wear sandals except when it is cold. Or muddy. Then we like boots. When it is medium cold we wear socks with our sandals, but they cannot be white socks as that would be unfashionable and we wish to be nuns with a sense of style. And we like treehouses. And libraries with pictures but not too many pictures that they'll crowd out the books. And we have a hermit. Don't bother her, she's being quiet and contemplative. Also, don't bother her because vee8 is standing guard with a super-soaker.

LOL Now that I see that, I actually did come across that. I must have quickly peeked in the thread. I remember having quite a laugh when I read that. It is very funny.

Why not add a bunch of animals for convent pets?

I had been thinking convent cats, because dogs bark too loudly. But, we haven't discussed pets, so no decisions yet.

As for pigs flying, why I think you're not taking us seriously!
