It is amazing the King of Heaven has found shelter in your house tonight. What a blessed opportunity, to be in the presence of the Lord God of Host! The most valuable treasure in the whole store, the entire mall, found hidden away in a drawer. Others would had to have seen Him also, but only the eyes of Faith could see Him. HisChildForever
I was going to bring it to my parish tomorrow. I am going on vacation this weekend for a week so I sort of have to figure this all out by tomorrow.
Brother Adam
That is fine for you to turn into the parish priest tomorrow. God bless you for protecting our Lord's Eucharistic presence. I would certainly call the rectory even late in the night to let them know and bring it by - a good priest will be relieved you have done so, even at 2 in the morning, but I can understand waiting too. Slappo
I would say if either you or your father are trained as an extraordinary minister, and somehow if you are not able to get it to a priest tomorrow: Have one distribute the host to the other with a simple communion service. It is possible that the host is not consecrated, so as a pastor I would not want to put it in the tabernacle and give someone an unconscerated host. I'm thinking that they are probably as distressed to losing it as you were to find it. (BTW great job on the rescue) would it be a bad idea to call a few parishes in the area and ask if they lost a pyx? You might bring some huge relief to somebody who is probably feeling awful right now!
This was my initial thought.
Wow! Wow...
Yeah. That's what I'm thinking... (dude! What a thread to make an appearance in!!) Maybe the pastor will be nice enough to delegate someone to write an email telling all one hundred or so parishes about finding this pyx. Someone is probably worried half to death. I'd be so excited to have Our Lord with me, even over night!

For example, when my dad looked at the Host he said the Host does not belong to our parish because our Host has a smaller cross. Our priests do rotate, and parishes help each other out during the summer months, so who knows. Even the pyx may look familiar.

Resurrexi
There is absolutely no reason why this Host should be disposed of. Rather, it should be consumed.

There is nothing disrespectful about that.

If there is even the slightest possibility that a host is consecrated, it should ALWAYS be consumed. There is no reason why an unconsecrated host would be inside a pyx in a mall.
Certainly there is. It was out of the control of the priest/deacon/extraordinary minister for a significant amount of time. Neither you, I, HCF or the priest has any idea what may have happened to it during that time. In light of that, if after it was returned to a priest, he decides to treat it as a contaminated host, he has that right and can dispose of it properly. And it is in no way disrespectful.
