HisChildForever
After I finished helping a customer, she mentioned that a few weeks ago she lost an earring while shopping. She knew she had come to our store that day, and I said I would be happy to look through the register drawers and then our lost and found in the executive office. I opened the register drawer and saw a small container with the very Catholic "PX" inscription on top amongst the staples, paper clips, ticket tape, pens, and other miscellaneous objects. Automatically, I assumed that there was a rosary inside. I click the button on the side, the lid pops open, and I almost fall over in SHOCK when I see a single host inside. I close the lid, then I opened it again, and then I put the container in my pocket. That container remained in my pocket for the entire night, and is now resting on one of my desk shelves with an electric candle (the desk shelf that I have "tripped up" with prayer cards and little saint statues). I am going to bring Him to the rectory tomorrow (or my dad will). Without a doubt this is a consecrated host - in a personal container. My first thought was that it "belonged" to an extraordinary minister but the container would have been much larger and why the heck would an extraordinary minister bring Jesus to the mall. I just took pictures and you can see them below. I had NO CLUE that a member of the laity could carry Jesus around like this! Can anyone explain it to me?? Just thank the Lord that I found Him, something awful could have happened. (Props to my dad by the way, he thought of the candle.) dominicansoul
another example of why there needs to be a reform of the use of "extraordinary" ministers of the Eucharist. It is apparent Jesus wanted you to find Him. He knew you would take care of Him and treat Him with respect...my question is, why wait until tomorrow? This seems like an emergency, and I would take him to the nearest rectory at once. If you wake up the priest, well, good... maybe you will "wake up" the priests... the literally hundreds of "extraordinary" "ministers" in my area carry around Jesus all the time.. even while shopping and going out to eat and such. I've witnessed this many times... It's sad, it's an abuse, but who's taking the necessary steps to ensure this abuse doesn't occur...??? ...continued prayers for the healing of our Holy Mother Church.... Nihil Obstat
It is possible (most likely, actually) that someone was bringing the Eucharist to a sick relative or friend, in which case that small container is a pyx. That's not hugely uncommon. Very very unfortunate that they would have lost it though. Thank God you found Him. It is especially unfortunate that anyone carrying the Eucharist would go shopping rather than directly to the home or apartment of the sick person. It's great that HCF was able to find the Host, though.
Jaime
I've got to imagine that if it was in a pyx that it was accidentally dropped by a a priest, deacon or Eucharistic minister. I'm thinking that they are probably as distressed to losing it as you were to find it. (BTW great job on the rescue) would it be a bad idea to call a few parishes in the area and ask if they lost a pyx? You might bring some huge relief to somebody who is probably feeling awful right now!

They could have stopped in to pay their bill before heading back to the Church. I would be interested to know who found it and placed it in the drawer, and how long it has been in the drawer for (last time I worked was Saturday and I definitely did not see it - as an aside we are closed on Sundays). J, that is a great idea, but I work at the largest mall in my state and there are close to a hundred parishes within driving distance. I would have no clue where to start. Besides the most obvious fact that it's a consecrated Host, the pyx should be made out of gold, so a bit of a drag to replace for most parishes these days.
