Q About Modest Swimwear

A few weeks ago I was out at a nearby quaint river town and a young woman was walking around in platform sandals and a bikini. She was the only one on the street in a bathing suit, and I'm pretty sure she was intending to provoke a reaction (and not the reaction I first had which was, "She's going to regret doing this when she has melanoma in 20 years." )

A young man should not have to swim with a t-shirt on. And the young women dont have modest swimwear. So split the two groups of young men and women up into different areas on the beach or lake or assign different times for the two.

I used to be a camp counselor (and lifegaurd) for a Catholic camp for youth ages 12-18 and here were the rules:

Guys, -we let them go shirtless.

Girls- Either one piece or wear a t-shirt over two piece. (Not a white t-shirt).

I think you all are being too uptight about this. As CS Lewis pointed out, modesty is relative to ones culture. A bikini isn't considered provocative or immodest in American culture anymore. The one pieces and t-shirts they will be wearing would have been considered scandalous a century ago. Now it's not big deal, like your average two-piece.

Quite expensive. But totally safe in the water: not heavy, bulky or binding.
And not SO weird looking.

I had a surfer dude swim up to me and ask me where I got my suit, because he wanted to get some.

Bonus: Used a lot less sunscreen

Beautiful to see such modesty and chastity! Just beautiful! It's even better with long leggings. If I had to go swimming, I'd wear something like that. Now how do we get local stores to start offering clothes like this? It's ridiculous the stuff they stock.

I live in a beach town, so really I guess my perspective on this isn't worth much, but as it has been mentioned before it just depends on culture.

And personally during the summer, I go without a shirt most of the time if not all the time except work and Mass.

Go to a store in a city and town with a large Muslim or conservative Jewish population. That, or build a market base for stores that don't cater to Muslims and Jews.

A culture itself can promote immodesty. Just flip on the tv.

It's not immodest if the culture doesn't consider it immodest. I'd bet that by Saudi cultural standards your wife dresses very immodestly. She'd be like someone here walking around in a mini-skirt, a tank-top and hooker boots. You don't view your wife as dressing scandalously. Why? Because you live in a different culture.
