i guess we will just have to disagree...i was raised with differing standards of modesty, and i don't think it's unreasonable to expect modesty from teenagers on a church trip.

I must say I strongly disagree with that statement.

They are commonplace, yes, but I certainly don't think they're not supposed to be considered "provocative" in our culture -- in my experience, it's quite the opposite. They're MEANT to be provocative. I think it's more a case of American culture embracing "sexy" as the norm than it is that bikinis just aren't considered to be "sexy" anymore.

The disagreement is over what constitutes modest swimwear, not over whether modesty is a reasonable expectation for a church trip

Kinda proves the point that no matter what you wear, there is a way for someone else to lust over it.

If I'd lived in that era, I think I would be admired for my well-turned ankles. (And they are--I have very nice ankles.)

BTW--I agree with the other posters who said that bikinis in our current culture are meant to be provocative.
