Do You Say Grace

Although it would be tons of fun to make people stare in restaurants, my take is that it's better to do it in your head. "But when you pray, go to your inner roo, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will repay you."

God bless
Janet

PS- Ashley- Good thread. I hope you're finding Phatmass a great place to post and all its people to be welcoming and loving!
ya, and then we also do either the Angelus or the Regina Caeli...after dinner we read the biographies of friars who died that day in our provinces and then pray for their souls and in thanksgiving for the meal

in Christ and Mary,
fr. Matt
I always forget, but I was never taught how too anyway. I just thank the Good Lord for providing at night after confessing my many sins.

Wow! Are you psychic? It's page three and I am just now posting. :)

Prior to us becoming Catholic, we took turns praying free form... but now we enjoy the <cross> "Bless us O Lord" <cross> format. :) There is something comforting about being able to go to another Catholic family's home and pray all together... not that we don't do free form... we still do.

Some Times my family dances in tights with geese and other animals, whilst carrying the food. It all very liturgical.

We try hard to not scandilize our brethern by eating meat not sacrafice to gods, but that is hard to find in the mid-west....

.Everything I said above is untrue and meant to make you laugh. If you took it seriously please forgive me. I think that liturgical dancing is wried.

Matthew 5:16

"Just so, your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father."

People need to see us pray. If you do it out of attention for yourself it is wrong, but to glorify God it is good! ;)

God Bless You
Jason

yes, when we eat at home, as a family. That sounds bad, but thats the only time. We say the "Bless us O Lord...."

I say Grace! Sometimes I forget when my stomache gets the best of me! My friend Erin calls unblessed food Heathen food, and I joke that if it's not blessed you'll get food poisoning or chock and die on it!.... :P ;)

When I grew up, we'd say grace all the time ... now I don't do it all the time, but sometimes. I almost never do in restaurants, although when I do I make sure to leave a really good tip.

I've had several waitress/waiter friends who tell me that Christians are particularly bad tippers, and that when they see people saying grace they generally get a much lower tip. So I try to buck the trend when I can, unless the service is egregiously bad.

Yeah, I've heard that too. Once you go so far as to say, "Hey, I'm a Christian" it seems like to right thing to do to leave a good tip and not rip on the servers etc.

Yeah, it's poor form to not leave a tip when service is good, and even worse form to do it when you've said by your actions that you're a person of faith. You'd think that people who are Christians would be MORE generous, but sadly that's apparently (in my friends' experience) not the case.

Theoketos: Liturgical dance isn't *necessarily* weird. I've seen both weird and totally cool. ;-)

I often forget to say grace--I always used to say it when I was younger. I need to get back into the habit (d'oh!).

Hee hee--when I was little, I thought "Bless us, O Lord" was a special "grandma" prayer, because we only prayed it when eating meals with my grandparents (all Catholic). Otherwise we just used "free-form".

I usually say grace, either outloud or in my head, when eating, but sometimes I do forget. I was dating this guy and we ALWAYS said it, and many times if we were out we would get an appetizer. We prayed when that came, and by the time the rest of the meal was served, we felt like we needed to say it again, lol. Maybe that is just God reminding us how blessed we are to have food so awailable to us un this country, unlike many other countries.
