Sojourner
Ugh. We've had an abundance of insects (and other fauna) lately as a result of the increased rainfall. We live near a swamp ... lots of frogs and toads, mosquitoes and other bugs, rabbits, a snake or two, turtles, etc. Oddly, with all the green everywhere, the deer still saw fit to eat my rhododendron. Ed Normile
Unfortunately for me the extra wet spring has killed my business, I do exterior coatings, the worst part is my credit is going to take a bad hit as I can not pay my payments due this month on my work truck or our car and a few credit cards. After years of a real good credit rating now when I have a daughter getting married in two years and a shower and a wedding coming up I am about to lose my credit rating, it does not seem fair. I know God will provide but I am losing sleep and its really affecting my health, stress and anxiety is a total bummer to deal with. ed
homeschoolmom
We have wasps working on a nest in the garage... swallows tried to build a nest over our front door, moved to the window (after much coaxing), hatched a clutch of eggs, let the babies die and are now trying to build another nest over our door... and we have a chipmonk swiping bird seed out of the garage... I can understand to a degree, as our credit plunged during my first pregnancy thanks to the housing market.

Pest control has come and thoroughly sprayed my house. ETA: I have also been reading up on what I can do to try and keep them out and one thing I read is to use diatomaceous earth around your house and yard. Apparently it makes their skeletal structure disintegrate and kills them. All they have to do is walk through it. It's safe for people and animals, too, so all you have to do is sprinkle it around where you have been seeing them. I'm going to Lowes to buy a bag this week! dominicansoul
we've had a wet spring and a very wet summer so far... and this has the snake population exploding out here! I've seen some pretty large rat snakes. I was walking down my driveway (which is 10 acres long, and surrounded by brush country...) and a HUGE one crossed my path... it was about 5 1/2 feet long, and pretty fat... I guess it had it's share of rodents that day... I was praying my Rosary at the time... made for a good meditation of Our Lady crushing the head of the serpent... [/quote] I ran a search on the English name from Arion lusitanicus and the name Spanish slug came up. They are aliens from the Mediterranean area and have no natural place in our nature, but obviously they're enjoying themselves here. They spread like wildfire, wreak havoc on people's gardens and are gross in general.
