hey! i am quite familiar with this show. i remember it was done in a Carthusian monastery, then in a poor Clare monastery. I would like to watch that. And I hope someone would bring that idea to our country.

Thanks for posting this link. I hope they will eventually offer more episodes for viewing.

There have been three similar programs that I am aware of:

1) The Monastery by the BBC (a Benedictine monastery [although they also make a brief visit to a Carthusian monastery]; the entire program is on YouTube -- just put "the monastery bbc" in the search box and you'll get a list of all 18 parts of it);

2) the Poor Clare one entitled The Convent (which I've not been able to find any episodes to view, but have just found references to the program, http://www.poorclaresarundel.org/Pages/CONVENTDefault.aspx);

3) and one done at the Benedictine convent Our Lady of Mississippi Abbey (in Iowa, http://www.mississippiabbey.org/ -- then clikc on News and DVDs).

While each program has their television drama moments and themes, they also offer a limited peek into the world of the monastery/abbey and their way of life.

Here's hoping some of these shows will eventually be put on YouTube! I'd definitely be interested in viewing them!

:clapping:

P.S. -- I watched "The Monastery" by the BBC on YouTube and that it was great! :twothumbsup:

Oh, and wasn't there an American version done on TLC? Does anyone know about that one? I only saw very brief clips on TLC's website a few months ago... just can't remember the name of the show. :scratchhead:

Heeey, after checking out PrayerSupporter's link to the Poor Clares of Arundel, I found that they have a YouTube channel as well! (Although, I did not find any episodes of "The Convent". :detective: )

I watched the short teasers and they were good. I would like to see all the episodes and the impact that 33 days had on their life. I'll have to check out the Youtube show though.

Thanks for the the info.

Wanted to let everybody know that I watched the entire 18 segments of "The Monastery" and I thought it was pretty well done. Very balanced approach to Catholicism and really portrayed the monastic life. I go to a seminary run by Benedictines, and watching "The Monastery" really gave me a new found appreciation for their life and mission in the Church. In some ways there was an affective movement of my heart towards monastic life, but we'll ignore that for the time being and continue on the diocesan path.

Does anyone know what the american version of "The Monastery" is called?

I'm pretty sure it's also called "The Monastery".

Here's a little clip I found about it -- telling about the daily schedule:

P.S. -- I've been pondering watching the BBC series on YouTube again. The first time I watched it, I almost couldn't get away from the computer -- I was hooked! :sweat:

I downloaded them all from Youtube using Real Player download, so you can view the files in real player or VLC player, thought that I might want to revisit it sometime in the future.
