jumpfrog
Not a Christian band, but does anyone have Ricki Lee Jones' The Sermon on Exposition Boulevard? Spooky and deep, although prolly not 100% theologically sound...but it is the amazingly talented (in so many ways) Ricki Lee Jones...
ardillacid
Does anyone not like secular music? I mean just look at Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. It's all garbage.
Slappo
except for a few groups, i really do not like Christian music. we have a local Christian station, and everyone keeps telling me i should listen to it (i hate when people tell me i 'should' do anything), and i simply cannot stand sappy, trite, and really poorly written songs.
you should either read this post or ignore my advice I understand exactly how you feel . I listen to the local country station more than the Christian station. I just switch stations when it gets to a bad country song.
sixpence
I only like good music.... it is rare that this includes any modern christian music...i find the majority of it very boring (both the lyrics and the actual music as a whole) I never find myself humming it later... I can hardly even recall the tune most of the time... if I feel like listening to christian music I find some traditional hymns etc. Edited July 20, 2010 by sixpence

Guest CatholicCoast
I think contemporary Catholic Music is like most things: 10% awful, 80% varying degrees of missed opportunity, 10% great. I like the songs the Franciscan Sisters feature at the 'Franciscanized World' each month - they're not always Catholic or Christian, but always moral, melodic, really cool and relevant songs. God the Father
Lots of Christian radio rock is pretty bad. pretty bad. Thousand Foot Krutch brings it every now and again, but for some reason I get a really dorky feeling from them. Probably because they're Christian! ha ha ha but seriously Skillet seems a little bit overproduced but they can lay down a pretty catchy tune. Relient K and Switchfoot are essentially interchangeable, christianness notwithstanding but contributing. Has the punk kick but none of the attitude.... probably because they're christian but seriously The radio can be a good place to look but it's also a pretty bad place to look. "Emo" in and of itself is nothing to disregard, nor is the term fit to be used derisively (although the culture which germinated and adopted the term certainly is worthy of derision). Of course, if, like much of this Christian music, the lyrics make you want to brush your teeth, it doesn't do much for the listener.

Arco
I'm not a fan as a rule, but I like some artists who infuse their Christianity into their work -- Sufjan Stevens, Ben Harper (apparently -- his stuff is really religious but I've heard he isn't Christian, which doesn't make any sense at all but whatever). Then there's explicitly Christian stuff like The Welcome Wagon, but honestly there's not a lot of Christian bands doing the sort of stuff I listen to -- this sort of indie folk stuff like Beirut and Josephine Foster. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam
I love Christian music. There are few things that help me better focus on the Divine and the Eucharist than monks chanting during Mass.
