Are There Any Carmelites Around Here?

Well, I know about at least two.

I'm leaning towards Dominican, but the carmelites have some magnetizing qualities too. I have never met or visited carmelites so I can't be certain.

I do have a growing appreciation and love for the Carmelites. The tradition (and Saints) of the Carmel tradition have helped me greatly in my own spiritual life. Very helpful in growing in prayer. And I have a great love for, well, quite a few Carmelite saints-- St. Teresa Benedicta (obviously, haha), St. Teresa of Avila, Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity, St. John of the Cross... (I have to admit that I do not share the profusely popular love of St. Therese. She's wonderful and I think she's great but I have no personal 'connection' with her.)

I don't think I have a call to Carmel, although it does appeal to me. I think if there were a mixture of Dominican and Carmelite, I would be there in an instant. The Carmelite prayer tradition with the Dominican love of study and learning.

It's funny... I think sometimes I'm a spiritual "mutt". I basically take the parts of each spirituality that really resonate with me and then combine them into this strange mixture that somehow manages to work for me. ;)

Nunsense is currently on a three month live-in with a Carmelite community.

And, Vee8 is showing some Carmelite tendencies, but since she's not wild about Therese I wonder about whether she wouldn't be happier with the Dominicans. Poor Vee8, she takes so much grief from us!

I'm all for whatever God wants and I'm happy there is a place like VS to come to, grief or not :P for support in the whole process.

LOVE the Community of St. John! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!!!

They actually also have Cistercian roots - the original brothers spent their novitiate with a Cistercian community in France. :)

BTW: carmel sounds like caramel.
In the U.S., it's not unusual to see the word "caramel" prounced like "carmel." In my case, I normally pronouce caramel with three syllables--"care-uh-mel,"--but for whatever reason, when I talk about caramel apples, which I love (that is, fresh apples dipped in caramel), I call them "car-mul apples." I think some people may prounce caramel and carmel the same way all the time.
