If you are interested in the active Franciscan life, I would highly recommend the Franciscan Sisters of the Renewal. I think Franciscanheart would concur seeing as she is hoping to enter that order soon. ;)

The thing is, if you did enter them, it could present a problem about your age because you would have to come to the US for postulant and novitiate studies. You don't get sent to the other houses until you are professed. The convent that recently opened in Leeds only has 4 Sisters currently, so I'm not sure if they plan to send more or not. I think they are testing it out before they send a huge number. :)

Edited to add:

I just looked on the CFRs IRL page and their age limit is 35 with no belated vocations allowed. :cry2:

Ah, okay. That's useful to know, that postulancy/novitiate would involve going to the US. As for the age restriction... no worries, it is what it is. I'm a few years off any kind of entrance in any case, what one thing and another, and I'm really just at the browsing-around-and-learning-what-the-orders-are-about stage. My pull is towards the cloisters and silent contemplation, so the Poor Clares and the Colettines are at the top of my visit list.

(And the Carmelites, too. But wrong thread...Unless anybody knows a Franciscalite/Carmeliscan order? )

Besides, who knows how things might change in the next few years, especially in terms of the orders that have come over to the UK... :hopeful:

Thanks for your help and research! It's very much appreciated...

Funny you should mention the Franciscan/Carmelite combination as I was discussing on another thread how I had wanted to create such an order and name it the Franciscan Sisters of St. Therese and Our Lady of Mount Carmel. I discerned, however, that God is not calling me to form an order, at least not at this time. I do know of this order that combines both:

I was walking around in a quiet, beautiful neighborhood this evening, reading some writings of Saint Francis de Sales. Naturally, my vocation came to mind and I was so happy to be spending alone time with God, even if it was on a sidewalk next to a golf course in the middle of a ritzy neighborhood. It was an interesting contrast to hear my Palestrina playing softly from my music device in my pocket, soaking in Saint Francis and having very temporal sounds infiltrate every once in a while. I was so grateful to be able to be quiet with Him for a little bit during this holy week of the year.

I can hardly wait to be in New York again but am of course finding so many blessings and opportunities here. :like:

I loved seeing the image in every chapel when I visited the CFR Sisters. They even had it with them at the Youth 2000 retreat and were having a discussion about it. Mary is so beautiful in this image. :)

Agreed. The significance of the image is so wonderful and, being of Mexican heritage, means a great deal to me. My grandma carries around a little statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe and I just love that.

I would love to get a statue of her. I've seen several from Catholic gift shops, but never one that I really liked or that was a decent price. :ohno:

I wonder how true to life the image of Our Blessed Mother on the tilma is... St. Bernadette wanted to die just to see her again. Wow!
