Christmas In July

I caught myself listening to the trans-siberian orchestra and frank sinatra's Christmas songs not too long ago :P summer lacks a lot of cheer, and the coke bottles lack santa and polar bears, sad times for us all.

There has to be a Grinch in every crowd, and I'm it. I hate Christmas. I like the religious part but do my best to ignore all the rest. I could go into the reasons why I feel this way, but they're boring.

Actually I kind of feel the same way sometimes. It gets a little annoying when everyone I know loves the holiday for presents and is totally atheist (and thinks religion is silly, etc.) I also don't like it when people get in your face so you'll tell them what you 'want' for Christmas -- it becomes more of an obligation they're hounding you to fulfill instead of some small little present. LOL So I actually now make sure people know I want nothing or something very small/inconsequential. And I hate those strange 'life summary' cards people send out to each other to 'one up' everyone; I find unpersonalized Christmas cards as creepy and unworthy of being sent as the page-long summary/boasting cards.

but that's so unpersonal...

my dad used to give us kids rolls of pennies for Christmas. This is like, when I was 3, 4, 5 years old. Then, he would gather us all around and show us how to win at card games. We would play for the pennies. Yup. My dad taught me how to gamble at a very early age. I learned all my bad habits from my dad. BEST CHRISTMASSES EVER!!!!

..now that I think about it.. daddy was really CHEAP! But I have to admit, I'd rather gamble for pennies with my siblings than have played with Malibu Barbie...

I have no idea how to play pinochle, except for the many times I saw the residents at the local old age home play it... (are you on a waiting list yet..? ) :P

For everyone who has a 'winter' season Christmas, do you feel drawn to Christmas during the warm summer months? I always do! I guess the 'Christmas in July' saying is true for me. When the holidays actually arrive I am usually too busy helping people and working on exams to feel super 'Christmas-y'.

Around June and July I always want to listen to Christmas music, read Christian poetry and theological material and pray the rosary. I think I am more excited about the beauty of Christmas (theological part, nature itself at that time, family gatherings) than during the actual month of December! I have so much more time during the summer to relax and think about the spiritual implications and beauties of Christmas.

Does anyone else get this feeling? Or the opposite scenario (thinking of Christmas during the coldest time of the year), for people who have a 'summer' Christmas?
[/quote]

YES, but only this year - we're in a new house, and I've been working on getting it fixed up, so for me, i can't wait for Christmas b/c i can't wait to see what our house will be like all decorated. :) Plus, i'd much rather be cold than hot, and we had a few weeks of warmer weather here, so I was looking forward to cooler times. i haven't taken to listening to Christmas music, though.

I become drawn to air conditioning during the summer.
