Sex Makes You Holy

:P Thought that would get your attention! :) I brought in a speaker for my youth tonight and she talked about grace, actual and sanctified, and how sacraments have both form and matter. The form is the words and the matter is the stuff. So, for example, Eucharist, the form is "This is my body and blood, do this in memory of me" and the matter is the bread and wine.

So, extrapolate that to marriage. The form is....the vows! And the matter is the consummation of the marriage! So every time that you have sex within marriage you are restating your vows and you make each other holy!

That is why you should not have sex before marriage! You want to wait to make the commitment and make your partner holy!! :o Isn't that the coolest thing?

What you said is true; however, the Saints and Sacred Scripture have taught us that to be a perpetual vigin is the most perfect vocation (Our Lady and Her Son, as well as most of the Saints). Our Lord Himself taught that to be a virgin should be taken on by all who can do so (which, of course, would also include a religious vocation). There is no such thing as the "permenant singe life". For gays, this may be different; however, they should just make themselves straight. God bless you all.

That's an awesome way to put that. I'm going to use that then next time I get into the inevitable debate about why you shouldn't have sex before marrage.

JMJ
4/16 - Easter Friday

I think Scott Hahn has a little quip that goes, "Sex isn't good - that's Campbell's soup. Sex isn't great - that's Frosted Flakes. Sex is holy."

Actually, that idea came from Chris West's Book The Good News About Sex and Marriage I was inspired when I first heard that from a priest, and realized where it had come from, and got to see it in context, with West's book.

God Bless Alelluia!!!

Celibacy isn't nessarcilly "better" in the sense that it makes you somehow holier or wiser, it's actually just brings the marriage of Christ and the Church (the example for all marriages) to the flesh. hence it's only "better" in the sense that Heaven is better then earth.

I would also disagree that celibacy should be practiced by all who are capable of it. The priesthood or relgious life is a special calling from God, not just what God has abled you to do.

Agreed. Who would make all the good Catholic families? ;)

being a priest is great... but i believe my call is to the married life--whenever that comes. but hey.. maybe the Permanent Deacon might be a good spot for me, who knows? *goes to pray about it*
