Up to 15 altar boys in my community during Mass, wearing black cassocks and white surplices. The older you are the longer surplice you wear. We hanve two teams that alternate, because the one Sunday there were 20 altar boys, and that was not cool. They are allowed to serve from the time they make 1st communion till they are 20. The little dorky ones though I think should be removed, because they pick and fish their nasal cavitiy, crack their knuckles, are do other such things. I like Apo's altar server's outfits, maybe I should talk to Fr.

I could probably serve pretty well if I went back to Church. I remember most of it.

I'm just curious as to what the "altar server" life is like at your parish. The poll wouldn't let me as anymore questions, so I'll ask them down here:

How many altar servers does your parish have total?
What sort of dress to your altar servers wear? (If cassock and surplus, are the girls included?)
What are the percentages of males-females who serve?

--------

My parish has a male-only altar serving crew, averaging from the age of First Holy Communion to high school seniors. We generally have around 7 or 8 boys serving per Mass (although for Corpus Christi we had 40 of them serving the Procession). I think we have somewhere around 50 or 60 altar boys, for a parish that has around 500 families (just to put it into perspective). Our boys wear a cassock and surplus when serving at the altar.

maybe 15 total- cassock and surplus (for both sexes when i started), now switched to a white hooded thing for girls. MCs (high school age) males- longer surplus females-gold cross

at my parish they (boys only) wore black cassocks and surplices when I was young. Now they wear albs with a cincture. Never made the connection before that the change came when the girls were admitted-- thought it was a fashion thing.

Our pastor was very much against having girls on the alter. One Sunday the servers failed to show for early mass, and a very prominent parish member went to serve-- and took his daughter with him. End of pastor's resistance!
