You're way older than me, though.

I never knew that about writing out the Torah before their Bar Mitzvah.

Maybe if I understood Hebrew or Latin or Ancient Greek.

But, as someone with a Master's Library Science, I think I took an oath to support the efforts of Gutenberg, and all those who came after him. I know I tend to take the printed word for granted, with all the new advances in media. But, I think Gutenberg would be very pleased to see that his efforts resulted in making the Bible available to millions of people, not to mention the fact that (at least in most places), literacy is the norm, not the exception.

Werd. I'm sure he'd find it rawkin' that we're doing it old-skewl just because it has been printed for us :punk:

I've never heard this before. Who told you this?
[/quote]
Hi, sorry I didn't respond sooner. I was trying to find more evidence than my initial source. My initial source is... Well... My friend told me, lol.

But! My friend who told me is working on her doctorate in literature and has a fascination for world religions, including Judaism, so I figured she knew what she was talking about. When I went looking for other sources, I actually couldn't find much. Most of what I found was the present-day requirements that need to be fulfilled. So maybe it's a thing of the past? Or something that only specific branches of Judaism partake in?

Anyways, I like the idea of writing out the Bible and I've found myself a blank notebook to get started with.

Seeing this thread reminded me that I should get back into the habit. I've decided that this time I'm going to try to write out the gospel for each Sunday in the traditional Roman calendar on the respective Sunday. Ideally I'd like to try to write out the epistles too, but, in my opinion, if one tries to write out too much at once, the task becomes tedious rather than spiritually beneficial to the one trying to write it out. This is what I did this morning.

I'm talking about the Bible, you theologically errant infidel. Once I read you and Apo flaunting your accomplishments, I decided to see how many times I could wrote out the bible in an hour. Turns out the answer is 37. Though I definitely prolly for sures could have topped 50 if I really tried.

Reminds me of mine. I remember back in grade 1 how they would try and tell us to make sure the bottom of our letters touches the line, etc etc. I got lazy over time with my penmanship. Men used to be great at it when they became literate, but now I see guys are mostly lazy with their writing and women have neat script.
