rhetoricfemme
I recently found out that before their Bar Mitzvahs, Jewish boys write out the complete Torah. How cool is that?!!! It got me wondering about writing out the Bible. And maybe the Catechism. It sounds like insanity, but the best kind of insanity ever!!! Have any of you ever taken on a project like this? Or wanted to? What also seems great about it, is that while it would take quite a while, it's not like you need to push yourself to complete it by a certain time. There's a chance to just absorb it. dominicansoul
just make sure that when you write it out, you use the Latin Vulgate...it's more fun that way...
aalpha1989
I would gladly do this under holy obedience... but I'm pretty bad at motivating myself.
jeffpugh
I think Rexi said he was writing out John or something a while back. Probably the Latin Vulgate translation. He is a classicist, so it would make sense to him (though, if I undertook this thing, I suppose I would understand it, too to an extent. At least I would grow in my Latin vocab. because I'd be looking up words all the time ) I'm with aalpha, though. Motivation

TeresaBenedicta
I've gone through the Gospel of John in Greek and translated it, as best as I could, before. I like this idea. I might actually take it up for this summer, considering I have very little else to do.

Hubs is deploying soon, and in addition to the plethora of books I just attained (Thank You, Era!!!), it seems as though I could occupy my autumn months very well... [/quote] I never knew that about writing out the Torah before their Bar Mitzvah. Maybe if I understood Hebrew or Latin or Ancient Greek. But, as someone with a Master's Library Science, I think I took an oath to support the efforts of Gutenberg, and all those who came after him. I know I tend to take the printed word for granted, with all the new advances in media. But, I think Gutenberg would be very pleased to see that his efforts resulted in making the Bible available to millions of people, not to mention the fact that (at least in most places), literacy is the norm, not the exception.
