So, do you wear something Catholic around your neck each day?

If yes, what is it?

Here's a thought for those who don't:

About a month ago, the day before my graduation, me and a few friends were driving with our chaplain to go out for breakfast. There was a major car accident on the free way. Father got out of the car, grabbed his holy oils, and ran up to the scene. It was a very serious accident-- they brought in the helicopter and everything. Father came back after they took off in the helicopter and told us that one had died and her husband was in critical condition, not likely to survive. I asked him if he was able to anoint and he shook his sadly and said, almost in desperation, "No... I was looking for some indication, something so I could anoint. But there was nothing."

That event got me thinking... how terrible it would be to in somesort of accident like that, to have a priest present, and not receive anointing. I mean, that couple may not have been Catholic or even Christian... or they could've been.

Just seems to me that even something as simple as a scapular or miraculous medal would ensure that a priest could anoint, if you weren't conscious enough to consent.

I wear the St. Benedict's Crucifix 24/7. I had it blessed after a Confession last year, shortly after having received it.

Here is information on it:
C. S. P. B.

Above the cup and the raven are the Latin words: Crux s. patris Benedicti (The Cross of our holy father Benedict). On the margin of the medal, encircling the figure of Benedict, are the Latin words: Eius in obitu nostro praesentia muniamur! (May we be strengthened by his presence in the hour of our death!). Benedictines have always regarded St. Benedict as a special patron of a happy death. He himself died in the chapel at Montecassino while standing with his arms raised up to heaven, supported by the brothers of the monastery, shortly after St. Benedict had received Holy Communion.

Monte Cassino

Below Benedict we read: ex SM Casino MDCCCLXXX (from holy Monte Cassino, 1880). This is the medal struck to commemorate the 1400th anniversary of the birth of Saint Benedict.

Reverse Side of the Medal

Crux mihi lux

On the back of the medal, the cross is dominant. On the arms of the cross are the initial letters of a rhythmic Latin prayer: Crux sacra sit mihi lux! Nunquam draco sit mihi dux! (May the holy cross be my light! May the dragon never be my guide!).

In the angles of the cross, the letters C S P B stand for Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti (The cross of our holy father Benedict).

Peace

Above the cross is the word pax (peace), that has been a Benedictine motto for centuries. Around the margin of the back of the medal, the letters V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B are the initial letters, as mentioned above, of a Latin prayer of exorcism against Satan: Vade retro Satana! Nunquam suade mihi vana! Sunt mala quae libas. Ipse venena bibas! (Begone Satan! Never tempt me with your vanities! What you offer me is evil. Drink the poison yourself!)
You can see the chain in my avatar. :saint:

Scapular, benedict medal, crucific, and guardian angel necklace. The scapular has a tiny iny benny medal and crucifix, so they don't make bumps under my shirt.

Ash Wednesday

I used to wear blessed objects but my eczema worsened after I hit 30 and my skin decided to get overly-sensitive. I hate my allergies and skin so much.

The back of my 4 way medal says, "I'm a Catholic, please call a priest."

Sounds like a threat :)

Then what of it for Catholics that die suddenly before being able to get last rites?

I know that a lot of the graces attached to certain medals preserve the wearer from sudden death; or rather assure the wearer that he will not die without the Sacraments, so one can assume that means preservation from sudden death.

They're given up to the mercy of God.

this is the one I wear. It's got Sacred Heart of Jesus, Miraculous Mary, Guardian Angel, and St. Christopher surrounded by Protect Us, Air, Land, and Sea. It belonged to my oldest foster son. He couldn't wear it to boot camp, so he asked me to wear it, and he said later he wanted me to keep wearing it to protect him.
