Father in Heaven, watch over Your children who selflessly engage in combat to protect the lives of their loved ones and countrymen. Shield them with Your grace and arm them with Your glory. May they and their families, who await their return, have the Faith to trust in Your divine plan, the Hope to be an anchor in times of fear, and the Charity to see Your face in the eyes of all people. We ask this through the intercession of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States of America. Amen.

I think Stern should join the army. It would be good for him.
These come off to me as a little harsh.

And HCF, I think all of us joining the army may do us some good.

I have heard of other European countries that require those that 18 to do at least a year or more in service within the military before going to school. Of course this varies from country to country. Would you want us to have such a system?

Funny that you rebuke them, but pretend like Stern isn't flaming:

nor do I ask, “What is your attitude toward having your daughter drafted onto the streets of Baghdad for five tours, perhaps coming back drooling and gurbling for life after having her brains scrambled by a roadside bomb?”

Lord God, Almighty Father,
creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess,
we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope and strength.
May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector, leading them from darkness to light.
To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever.

Amen.

Leave it to Sternhauser to be an ass to and about the people who helped stop evil communism and protect his freedom. I forgot. He'd rather go through life passively riding on the backs of those who dared to join the military than stand up for them.

You know what, Sternhauser? Why don't you stop running your mouth and disrespecting people who fight everyday for YOU and your ungrateful self?
I remember, a topic over the fact that we cannot say a certain menial "carp" term, yet the moderators find it ok that another member on the board can all another a name? And one that is more or less considered offensive in most social situations? I understand the voice and perspective in which this retort comes, but this is not a very accepting nor open view point in which to read Stern's replies. He is merely putting forth his opinion with freedom of speech in which is one of the freedoms the soldiers fought for.

And not only that I am pretty sure Stern means no disprespect, since I see nothing but respect from him. And I am not just saying this because I consider Stern a friend, but as a fellow Catholic, I find this comment a bit much. Given to some it may seem as if Stern stepped on some toes, but this by no means deserves such an outlash of insults/offensive statements/unfair assumptions.

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives, do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful." -John 14:27

Father, we approach You as the Most High God. We declare that You are the Creator of all things.
You set the boundaries of the sea, and stretched out the heavens above. When You act Lord,
no one can reverse it, and there is no one who can deliver out of Your hand.

We ask Lord that Your mighty hand of protection would be with our troops, that You would
surround them with Your favor as a shield. Bless them in the land, and do not
surrender them to the desire of their foes.

I pray that Your hand of protection would guard them from chemical and biological agents.
Give our soldiers wisdom in staying clear of these weapons, and
thwart the plans of the enemy to use them.

I ask for discernment in separating civilians from soldiers. Help our troops to
protect the innocent, and to watch over the needy as they liberate the Iraqi people.

Go before them Lord as they press into the battle and be their rear guard.
Surround them with songs of deliverance, and keep them from the hands of the enemy.
In Jesus name, Amen.

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
Trained in combat, hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage peak from the Green Berets

Silver wings upon their chest
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her his last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

First example I have seen ha.

And personally Stern has been a lot more courteous to me then most on here. Even when we don't agree. We discuss.

Flaming? Those are the words of a man who lost his vision in combat. The reality of his words do burn. Nothing is more flaming than this kind of stuff, which people gobble up by the millions, in one form or another. This style of propaganda has been more verbal for the past few decades.

Prayer for Fallen Soldiers

Dear Lord Jesus and Mary, Mother of God,
Hold all these brave souls in the palm of your hand, comfort them and their families.

Send angels of protection, love, and comfort to all the service men and women still at war,
bring them home safely and comfort their families.

We ask all our prayers in Jesus' name. Amen.
