if you hit a tree with an axe, it also dulls the axe. you paid money for that axe but i would say the cut and felled tree was a more significant result to the action.

You're right! the guy probably had some damage to his vehicle which is a heinous crime :topsy:

Except an axe has no moral, eternal, or transcendent significance.

The guy who hit the bird purposely was a wacko, people who have no qualms about killing an animal are not far off from killing humans, think that is a far reaching statement, it seems serial killers start off torturing animals. I see no wrong in harvesting or keeping animals for food or service, I beleive that is why God gave us dominion over them. Needlessly killing one is sick. Another thing, I am pretty certain that as catholics we are not allowed to "mercy kill" anything, even an animal. You guys can look this up as I am tired right now but I am certain this is true.

For an animal, I think you'd be incorrect.

We may kill animals even when it is not an act of mercy and even when it is not for food (e.g., necessary experimentation). We are told, however, not to be unnecessarily cruel to them.

Ed, unlike humans, who exist for their own sake, animals are a means to an end. They are property. They exist for the sake of men. It's why God created them.

Additionally, there is no redemptive value in animals experiencing pain. That is one of the reasons why it is morally licit to euthanize an animal.

On second thought, I think there might be redemptive value in the suffering of those animals.

I'm pretty sure just viewing those photos took a few years of purgatory off my gigantic debt.
