Ed Normile
The guy who hit the bird purposely was a wacko, people who have no qualms about killing an animal are not far off from killing humans, think that is a far reaching statement, it seems serial killers start off torturing animals. I see no wrong in harvesting or keeping animals for food or service, I beleive that is why God gave us dominion over them. Needlessly killing one is sick. Another thing, I am pretty certain that as catholics we are not allowed to "mercy kill" anything, even an animal. You guys can look this up as I am tired right now but I am certain this is true. ed

We are told, however, not to be unnecessarily cruel to them.

They exist for the sake of men. It's why God created them. Additionally, there is no redemptive value in animals experiencing pain. That is one of the reasons why it is morally licit to euthanize an animal. ~Sternhauser
