holly.o
When I would see the bright white of the Dominican habits, I think I was at first put off - it just seemed too bright, and I always imagined religious in dark colors. But the more I see it, the more I get a feeling of calm from the color. I get a strong sense of joy when I read about the Dominican life. It seems to come from embracing God in everything, which is shown in the balance of St. Dominic's spirituality. God told St. Catherine that "The religion of thy Father Dominic is joyful and lightsome." So I'd say He's very pleased with this aspect

God told St. Catherine that "The religion of thy Father Dominic is joyful and lightsome." So I'd say He's very pleased with this aspect
My first reaction to seeing white habits was also somewhat.... I kept thinking to myself, "Man, if you're called to that Order, you must be SUPER neat, clean, and tidy! Also very graceful and elegant to NOT have stains anywhere..." I always wanted to be in a blue habit. For love for Our Lady. (However, I was not a fan of the avid attention one gets from wearing a very striking shade of blue, even though I love the color. ) After a few years, I think I can finally see the beauty of the simple black, white, brown, or grey habits. I love the unassuming quality of them, if that makes sense. I even love the "earthy" nature of those colors and how one can better "blend" so to say, while still being a profound visible witness. And well, having seen the white Dominican habit in various places and times within recent years, I tend to agree with the "joyful and lightsome" aspect of it.
