Oh boy... I don't think my mom understands exactly what it is that I am doing... Pray for me. I need to be able to explain what I am about to do!

Just got a call from Mother Abbess... She suggested Palm Sunday for my entrance... This is the 800th year since St. Clare left her home and took the holy habit. :nunpray:

Does anyone know how those entering into vowed religious life with an order get their names? I have always been a bit curious about that.

It depends on the order (and even differs between communities). Some of course, keep their baptismal names. For the ones that choose, some communites always have Mary (or a variation of it). Some, like TeresaBenedicta's community (SSVMs) take only titles of Mary. The majority of communites that take names have saints- sometimes the novice-to-be gets to select it. But from what I've heard, most of the time the postulant selects 3 choices and submits them to the Superior who discerns the name (which is usually one of the three choices, but doesn't necessarily have to be) and it is given at the investiture ceremony.

Thank you. I've always been curious about that and now that I am looking at entering I'm really curious. I'm glad you get to submit a list of names. I need to start looking at Dominican saints since I want to be a Dominican. Anyone know where to find a comprehensive list of Dominican saints?

Well, this hasn't been updated in a few years, but we complied a list a few years back of Saints from the different orders: http://www.phatmass.com/phorum/index.php?showtopic=22549&view=findpost&p=393771
