laetitia crucis

Granted, I'm not all that fond of pink, but given the previous day's flock of uncanny and unexpectedly "pink bridesmaids", I took this as a SIGN from God. Hahahaha!! So. Now I have my "nun shoes". I am SO happy and relieved!!! (I'll post pictures of the "sensible black lace-up shoes" in the near future... ) For now, I have tissues stuffed up my nose and I'm sipping hot lemon and honey tea. Oy. God is so very good!
Because your Visa came in, I will tolerate your "whirling dervish nun" Very cool. The Visa, not the nun. (I have no emos, so just assume emos, where they would normally be.) As for wellies and nun shoes, why didn't you ask ME? LLBean usually has REAL wellies, the green kind like the Queen wears. Not those pink poser wellies. What kind of wellies are those? You are very gullible. Those are NOT wellies. And, last year, Lands' End had wellies, too. Not sure if they will have them this year. Well, when your new Sisters get over their hilarity at your "poser pink" wellies, I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a store in your new village that sells wellies. The REAL kind. Everyone in England wears wellies. Even Prince William's girlfriend wears them. As for sensible nun-type shoes. I know a couple of Web sites that would be sure to have them. I hate shoes. And, I hate shoe shopping. I can't remember the last time I was in a mall. Web shopping is awesome. I have very few talents, but finding obscure things on the Web is one of them. But, do they ask ME? Noooooooo. <Grumble Grumble>
I totally should have thought about asking you about Wellies!!!! Wal-Mart has the green ones, but alas, my cankles and chunky caves just don't cut it. There were also these GREAT blank ones with a nice bright blue inside.... but alas again. Didn't fit. So sad. I'm hoping the fact that I'm American will give me a little Wellie-leeway. I've looked online for the shoes, but when it comes to clothing and shoes, I usually prefer my first contact with them to be in person -- just to find the Perfect Fit. Although, once I know a certain brand fits a certain way, then I have no problem ordering online. However, I must admit -- you have an AMAZING talent at finding obscure things on the Web! Okey dokey, it's back to my lemon and honey, and the tissues up my nose.
I am really sorry about the cold--colds are awful. You feel like total croutons, but everyone just says, "Oh, it's a cold." I blame those posers on the mall for giving it to you. LOL And, you wanted to have a fun week in Richmond. <sigh> I'm glad you weren't sick for your BOC shower. It sounded like a lot of fun. I think a classic wellie should be wide enough to accomodate cankles and large calf muscles (should your description be correct, and not exaggerated). After all, in England, wellies are normally worn OVER jeans/cords etc, but, you will be wearing a skirt, and later a habit, and will not be wearing your wellies over trousers. I'm sorry for being mean about the pink shoes, but to me, they just aren't my taste. However, it needs to be taken into account that I am VERY boring in my choice of shoes, downright dull, so I know that others will completely disagree with me, and will like them. When it comes to shoes, I am not fashionable at all, so my opinion should be taken with a huge grain of salt. Forgive me if my kidding came across like an insult. That said, personally, I were you, I'd take them back while I was still in Richmond, and ask the Sisters if you could wait to purchase your wellies until you get to England, because the Sisters may not realize that "true wellies" are VERY difficult to find in the U.S.--which is true. If that isn't acceptable, I probably could find a pair of true wellies in the U.S. over the Internet, but I'm not sure exactly where--even the L.L. Bean version (which they may no longer sell, for all I know), may not be the "real thing." And, I have no idea what they'd cost. Because wellies are so much more common in England, I'd expect the prices would be better--but I don't know that. I will confess, however, that I can hardly wait to see what the Sisters think of your pink "pseudo wellies" if you decide to keep them--they will either find them hilarious or be appalled--or both. LOL Wellies are green. Period. Shoes are difficult to buy over the Internet at first. Over time, you get to know brands. And, since sizing differs, I will sometimes buy two pair, and keep the pair that fit, and send the other pair back. I did that when I bought snow boots for Sister Helen. She came over to my house and tried them on, and thankfully one pair fit very well, and she loved how comfortable they were. I sent the other pair back. But, it sounds like you did fine with the "nun shoes"--even without seeing a picture. And, if they are really comfortable, they are worth the extra money--buying two pairs was VERY smart. I often do that when I find shoes that are exceptionally comfortable. With any luck, the shoes will last you for years. If the soles start to wear out, you can always have them resoled. And, when the time comes (ideally, years from now), when you have to break down and buy new shoes, by then you will be an expert on where to find "nun shoes" in England. Besides, won't you mostly be wearing sandals anyway?
laetitia crucis
Somewhat random: I took the pink Wellies back. I was a little sad at first -- they were SO comfortable! -- but in all honesty, I'd much have matching Wellies with my fellow Sisters while working in the garden. The Sisters will be getting Wellies for me when I get there. I hope they're GREEN! Heehee. Also, I just noticed that the profile pic for the Dominican Friars of the St. Joseph province has recently changed to this: I really like it and find it quite cute. I have been pondering using that as my avatar when I leave, with "Domini Canis" as my title. However, I'm not sure yet. Elphaba is my homegirl. I'd like to leave with a picture from "Defying Gravity" and the lyric "Kiss me goodbye... I'm defying gravity!" under it. That song pretty much sums of my vocational "journey"... on several levels.
Sarah147
How's your cold? Many times, I've found "Airborne" and "Zicam" to improve my colds and get rid of them fairly quickly. I had one awful cold when I was at a convent, and it hung around for weeks; when I returned home, I got on those two products, and the cold finally left, and quickly. Those were the tops of my Wellies that have since been returned. At first sight I thought these shoes were utterly hideous. However, once I pictured them nicely snuggled under a habit, I instantly fell in love with them. Not to mention, they make my feet feel like they're walking on clouds.
