I love St. Mary Magdalene - she was my third choice for a religious name

Did any of you know that the Dominicans celebrate her feast as an actual Feast Day (and not just a memorial, as it is on the universal calendar)? :) It's because the Dominicans are in charge of her shrine in France. Awesome!

Yeah! One Dominican sister said they consider her to be one of their patronesses because she was the first to preach the good news of Christs ressurection to the Apostles!! The DSMMEs have a huge statue of her in their main chapel.

I found it! It's so sad.

If you click on your first link, the photo at the top of that blog post is from the web site of the "Daughters of Mary Mother of Our Savior", the religious order of the Society of St. Pius V (Societas Sacerdotalis Sancti Pii Quinti or SSPV). That is a sedevacantist organization.

Also on the Dominican side: one of St. Catherine of Siena's noteworthy visions was to see, and converse with, Mary Magdalene in Heaven. She came out of that ecstasy in front of her confessor, repeating "Vidi Arcana Dei," which means I have seen the hidden things of God, and her confessor spent several minutes repeating his questions before she was recovered enough to be conscious of him.

Okay, had to post this.

It's like 2:20 in the morning right now, so I get on facebook and the only person on chat is one of the Sisters from my future community.

I don't know whether to laugh hysterically, or wonder what she is doing on facebook at this hour?
(honestly though, I'll probably be doing the same thing in three years.)

This is silly - but I followed the link for the Sisters of Mary and all I could think was "how do they keep their veils on???Staples???" I rather liked the habit but agree with other posters about the lack of vows. To me, vows are profoundly important.

*Giggle* I am a karate student, and I think that all religious should know karate...so that if Satan or any of his little minions give them any trouble, they can confidently kick butt!!

Kind of hard to kick the enemy when it's more of an attack of "have that cake, you know you want another slice..." "And how about that soda over there... take two, no three..." Heh.

A random thought that keeps going through my mind:

Even though I'm super excited about my new job and I love being able to spend this much time with my family AND I know that I'm where God wants me right now, there's an ache inside of me that longs to just enter now. But, you know, I thank God for that desire (even if it causes a wee bit of pain) because it's a very good motivational tool. Gotta get myself in shape and get these loans totally paid off!!

I haven't had any spiritual direction for several months because I moved. Now I'm ready to talk to a priest again and today I really needed to talk, so I called the parish and father isn't in because it's his day off!! I'm :annoyed: I know he's the pastor of many people and deserves a break but *sigh*. I was ready to talk today and now who knows when I'll get the chance. Just random venting, next venting to God since Hes the boss.

I'm sure it's very frustrating, but that fact that you long to enter RIGHT NOW is also a good sign, because it means that you're not having second thoughts or doubts that you have a vocation (although, from other people's stories, doubts will probably still crop up when you least want them).

I got behind on my reading and somehow missed that you got the job you applied for! Congratulations!

Now you can go out and buy lots of designer clothes! (Just kidding, because you were worried that having income might make you become too materialistic.) Again, as you said, the fact that you have such a strong desire to enter will make it easier for you to live very frugally, because every penny saved will allow you to enter sooner!

Sorry I've forgotten, but there are so many women on VS who are actively discerning that I lose track. Do you already have a community that you plan to enter or are you still discerning the right community? I should know that. Sorry.

How dare the priest take a day off, just when you wanted to talk to the priest!

This is another sad effect of the lack of priestly vocations. "In the old days" when a parish had more than one priest, the priests probably tried to stagger their days off.

Since God is your ultimate "spiritual director" anyway, with any luck, having a talk with "the boss" might help give you some clarity (or whatever it is you need). You're going to be spending LOTS of time with "the big boss" in the future, so getting to know him a little better now (and vice versa) won't hurt. In the convent, your spiritual director priest probably won't be available "on the spur of the moment" either, so I guess you might as well start getting used to it.

But, I know exactly how you're feeling (although I confess, never about seeing a spiritual director).
