Marigold, I'm wondering if there is someone whom you could contact about the status of the visa? They may not know specifics but at least knowing generally where you are in the process would be good.

Funnily enough there is a new lady at our parish who works at the embassy. She took my details and then emailed me to say that since the monastery hadn't received the approval of their petition for me yet, there wasn't anything I could do but wait. And I know the approval is being delayed because the monastery had to send in some extra paperwork. The approvals apparently take about 1 month to come through so it really should be here any day now. At which point I make a mad dash to send in my application, wait to be allocated an interview (I have to give them quite a lot of money to do that, by the way - they certainly aren't shy about asking people to pay for entry to the States) ... and then if I pass the interview, I should have my visa 4-5 days after that.

So there are quite a few steps left, all of which hinge on getting the $%£!@# approval. Mid-February is not looking hopeful, but I am grateful, more than I can say, for your prayers.

Well that is good to know that you haven't been lost in government la-la land. I will continue to pray that you get your interview quickly and I am sure that you will pass. Just remember God can work miracles about timing.

Something to cheer you up in the meantime, http://dominicancooperatorbrother.blogspot.com/2010/07/what-do-you-ask-of-me-joe-trout-talks.html . This is about his journey to becoming a cooperator brother. There is one part that reminds me a tiny bit of your situation.
" Well, I had a little over a month to complete all the paperwork and appointments before going in front of the boards. By the grace of God, it only took 20 days to complete. Anyone who has ever tried to schedule a physical, dental check, psychological evaluation, and so on, all in cities they do not live in can attest that without the grace of God this would not have happened. "
You should read the rest as he has a very good and humorous way of explaining things. It makes me smile every time I read it.
