Just heard that the House repealed the Don't Ask Don't Tell. I don't know what that means exactly.

It means that now the Pentagon may choose to allow gays to openly serve in the Armed Forces. :/

It's probably not great for military discipline.

Because up til now soldiers who announce they are gay are kicked out of the armed forces.

Okay, I get that. But why would it be a negative thing to allow people who are gay and lesbian to serve in the army?

Fall of the Roman empire was in part due to lack of military discipline. Just something to consider.

Openly gay soldiers are subject to the UCMJ and all the same rules of other soldiers.

But more to do with the fact that no matter how much discipline a military has, it can't remain spread over the known world indefinitely. Thank goodness.

I guess I was wondering if this will be something that will fall in place immediately, or if there will be an executive order involved or if it will default. The way they set this up was silly in the first place.

Most likely, it will be left up to the Pentagon to fully repeal it. At least that's the scuttlebutt on talk radio.

I don't think it has much to do with military discipline. Sexual orientation isn't a defining factor in how one performs in the military.

I'm wondering the same thing, but I don't know what they'll do. I agree with you that they way they set it up was silly. But I guess we'll see what happens.
