Dave
I'm 28 years old, and I've struggled with this sin for about 12 years. It's really been a struggle. By the grace of God, it's gotten better, but I haven't stopped completely. I can't emphasize prayer enough. If I get lax in my prayer life, then I'm just asking for trouble. So in order to truly be successful in fighting masturbation, I also need to truly be successful in not letting prayer slide! I'm praying for you, and if you need to talk, I'm here! Fiat_Voluntas_Tua
Alleluia, it has been about 2 years since I have even been tempted by this sin, and i still don't stop praying for God to be with me during the temptations. Just think that nothing is impossible...Think about it...you can make the decission...Do you want to be a slave to sin? Do you want to serve sin whenever you are tempted. Also another good thing that helped me get over this sin was to try to help others quite the sin. If you do this you will find yourself starting to despise the sin. You wil become so angry at the sin that all you want to do is let it go, ignore it because it isn't even worth a thought. If you passionatly hate the sin than you will passionatly hate commiting the sin, and you will slowly start to not commit the sin. Also...I wear a rosary around my wrist at all times...even when I sleep. The Virgin Mary will help you out in times of need. have something that will remind you to go to her when in need. pax et Agape per Maria, Andy e-mail if you need advice or want to talk. Fiat_Voluntas_Tua
the coolest thought in the world...because I do not indulge in masterbation or pornography, I can say, If I am called to marry some holy woman, I would have loved my wife from the minute I stopped indulging in masterbation and pornography. I would have loved my wife long before i even met her. If you do not mastrbate/view pornography and you respect women you can say that you loved your spouse even before you knew them. It is an amazing thought to think that you are giving up this sin for your potential furture wife/husband. Beautiful. CreepyCrawler
I appreciate your prayers and advice, you guys have some great suggestions. I think I'll buy a medal soon. I also just put some holy water and a rosary in my car. It's also nice to hear from people who've struggled in the past, it gives me hope for the future The weird thing about this all is that I don't look at porn, I don't even look at women's magazines (except InStyle, but that's fashion), I don't watch movies that have sex in them at all (I read the boxes and reviews first), I hardly watch TV anymore, and I don't listen to the radio except for the Christian station or classical music -- the temptation just comes from nowhere (or rather, Satan). The incident described above started at the library while I was studying for my neurobiology exam, a very unsexy topic. I don't know what else I can do if it's so random! CreepyCrawler
If you passionatly hate the sin than you will passionatly hate commiting the sin, and you will slowly start to not commit the sin.
I think St. Francis de Sales said something to that effect, too. It's a great thought.
